The 2024 presidential race is already throwing curveballs. But no one saw this coming.
And Ron DeSantis has everyone stunned after making this solemn for 2024.
Florida Governor and current Republican presidential candidate, Ron DeSantis is fighting an uphill battle in his quest to be the party’s nominee.
Former President Donald Trump is way ahead in the polls and has little chance of losing his lead.
So for trailing candidates, the media often will ask if they have any interest in running as Vice President.
When discussing this topic with Fox News’s Maria Bartiromo on the Sunday Morning Futures show, DeSantis made it clear his main ambition is to win the presidency.
“No, I’m running for president,” Governor DeSantis said in response to if he would be Trump’s running mate.
DeSantis previously told the Wisconsin Right Now radio show this past summer that being vice president “doesn’t really have any authority,” and that he’d rather stay governor of Florida.
“I don’t think so. I’m not a No. 2 guy,” the Governor said when the Wisconsin-based radio show also asked if he’d consider being Donald Trump’s VP.
Ron DeSantis also told Bartiromo that “We need somebody that can serve two terms,” hinting that Trump’s 4-year limit could pose a problem to Republicans in the future.
“We need somebody that can win states like Georgia and Arizona, which President Trump cannot do or did not do, even though candidates like McCain and Romney had no problem winning those states.”
A FiveThirtyEight poll shows Donald Trump sitting at 55.1 percent in the primary.
DeSantis is in a distant second at 13.5 percent.
But just because he trails by a large number, that doesn’t mean he wants to play second fiddle to Donald Trump during his potential second term.
The former President also doesn’t look to be too keen on picking DeSantis or anything other Republican candidate at this moment.
“They’re all job candidates,” Trump said about the Republican field.
“They’ll do anything, secretary of something. They even say VP. I don’t know. Does anybody see any VP in the group? I don’t think so.”
It looks like neither Trump or DeSantis are interested in the Florida Governor being a Vice Presidential candidate.
The first primaries aren’t until the beginning of 2024, so DeSantis still has time to rally back in the polls and work to achieve his goal of becoming President.
