A Leftist politician has done the unthinkable. They’re showing a rare moment of remorse.
And a Democrat Senator has issued a show-stopping apology to Americans.
The Democrat-led government shutdown finally came to a screeching halt after 40 grueling days, but not without exposing the deep cracks in the party’s leadership. Pennsylvania’s Senator John Fetterman, a Democrat who’s been bucking the trend, stepped up to call out the mess for what it was—a total disaster that hurt everyday Americans.
Fetterman took to X, where he blasted the shutdown and highlighted his own efforts to stop it. “After 40 days as a consistent voice against shutting our government down, I voted YES for the 15th time to REOPEN,” he wrote, making it clear he’s been fighting this battle from the start.
He went on to express real regret for those caught in the crossfire. “I’m sorry to our military, SNAP recipients, gov workers, and Capitol Police who haven’t been paid in weeks. It should’ve never come to this. This was a failure,” Fetterman added, putting the blame squarely where it belongs.

This shutdown dragged on far too long, leaving hardworking folks like U.S. troops and families on food stamps high and dry. It’s the kind of chaos that happens when Washington elites play games with people’s lives, and Fetterman was one of the few on his side willing to say it out loud.
Over in the Senate, Democrats finally folded like a cheap suit, voting to advance a continuing resolution that keeps the government running—but they walked away empty-handed. Reports from Breitbart News laid it out plain: Senate Democrats caved and got zilch for their troubles.
The vote saw eight Democrats crossing the aisle to join 42 Republicans in pushing the funding bill forward on a procedural step. As Breitbart detailed, “Eight Senate Democrats voted with 42 Republicans Sunday night on a procedural vote to allow a continuing resolution (CR) funding the government to advance.”
They had talked a big game, promising all sorts of wins, but in the end, it was a big fat zero. The outlet pointed out how Democrats overpromised and underdelivered, leaving their base wondering what the point even was.
Key players in this flip included Senators Maggie Hassan and Jeanne Shaheen from New Hampshire, Dick Durbin from Illinois, Jacky Rosen from Nevada, and Tim Kaine from Virginia.
They teamed up with others like Catherine Cortez-Masto from New Mexico, independent Angus King from Maine, and of course, Fetterman himself, who had already supported the House-passed version earlier.
Social media lit up in response to Fetterman’s bold post, with conservatives giving him props for standing apart from the pack. Activist Scott Presler chimed in with a simple, “Thank you for not being a part of Chuck Schumer’s shutdown,” hitting the nail on the head about who’s really pulling the strings.
Others went further, urging Fetterman to jump ship altogether. One user flat-out said, “Its time to switch parties brother,” capturing the frustration many feel with the Democrat machine.
Another commenter praised his integrity, noting, “You turned out to be one of the more principled Members in your party and have gained much respect from my side because of it.” It’s rare to see a Democrat earn kudos from the right, but Fetterman’s actions spoke volumes.
This isn’t the first time Fetterman called out his own team. Back in late October, he admitted feeling “dismayed” that Democrats were “playing chicken” with food security, especially as the shutdown blocked SNAP benefits from reaching needy families, according to Breitbart.
That kind of recklessness hits working-class Americans hardest, and Fetterman wasn’t afraid to spotlight it. He later went even further, apologizing on behalf of his fellow Democrats for failing to pull it together and reopen the government sooner.
In fact, he didn’t hold back on the language, saying he was sorry they couldn’t get their “sh*t” together.
As the dust settles, this episode shows just how out of touch the Democrat leadership has become, prioritizing power plays over people’s paychecks.
Fetterman’s repeated votes—15 times, no less—to end the nonsense prove that not everyone’s buying into the party line, and that’s a win for common sense.
