AOC has shot to stardom in the Democrat Party. Her radical agenda goes further than even Nancy Pelosi is comfortable with.
But Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez could end up in jail because of this ethics violation.
AOC has fashioned herself as “one of the people” – a former bartender who is fighting for the down-trodden American.
In reality, she only cares about demonizing the rich for their success and complaining that the United States is a not under a socialist regime.
Her radicalism has made old-guard Democrats worry as they see their party shift even further Left than they would’ve expected.
But her Leftist agenda for America is crumbling to the ground thanks to a new investigation.
According to a press statement from the House Committee on Ethics, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is under investigation.
There were few details provided concerning the investigation, but the impartial Office of Congressional Ethics communicated the matter to the panel on June 23.
The committee said that it will prolong its investigation into Ocasio-Cortez’s OCE complaint.
“The Committee notes that the mere fact of a referral or an extension, and the mandatory disclosure of such an extension and the name of the subject of the matter, does not itself indicate that any violation has occurred, or reflect any judgment on behalf of the Committee,” the panel stated.
The investigation has been extended ahead of the 118th Congress’s inauguration in January. That means the committee’s next measures won’t be announced until the new year, when Republicans retake the majority.
Typically, the committee rules necessitate the eventual publication of details from the original OCE referral.
A representative for Ocasio-Cortez was obstinate that the matter would get dismissed.
“The Congresswoman has always taken ethics incredibly seriously, refusing any donations from lobbyists, corporations or other special interests,” the spokesperson said, Forbes reported.
Last year, the Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust called for an investigation into Ocasio-Cortez’s attendance at the Met Gala, where she famously caused a stir by wearing a dress with the slogan “Tax the Rich.” The watchdog, the Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust, emphasized that House Rule 25 imposed restrictions on the types of gifts members of Congress could receive.
FACT requested that the House Committee on Ethics investigate the situation, but it is unclear whether the Met Gala controversy is related to the inquiry reported on Wednesday. Other members of the New York delegation, including outgoing Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), appear to have been embroiled in a similar issue surrounding the Met Gala.
Notably, the Office of Congressional Ethics previously disclosed that it “transmitted a referral to the Committee on Ethics” on June 23, 2022 — the same date indicated for the Ocasio-Cortez referral included in the press release Wednesday.
FACT emphasized reports that Ocasio-Cortez was given tickets worth roughly $35,000 each, as well as the congresswoman’s assertion that she “borrowed” a designer gown to attend.
“The gift rule for Members of Congress is very clear and is in place for good reason. Members simply cannot accept anything of value that isn’t on the short list of permitted items. This is a bedrock ethics rule and it serves several important purposes,” FACT Executive Director Kendra Arnold said.
Maloney, the chairman of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, has come under fire for allegedly making a phone call demanding an invitation to the gala, which “had decided not to invite her to that year’s event.” Maloney has denied wrongdoing.
