The Left has always been a little too extreme. But this is beyond the pale.
Because a Democrat Congressman threatened Trump supporters’ lives live on TV.
Himes’ Stark Warning on AOC and Illegal Strikes
In a pointed MSNBC appearance on “Chris Jansing Reports,” Connecticut Democratic Rep. Jim Himes sharply criticized the Trump administration’s airstrikes on suspected narco-trafficking vessels, framing them as unlawful and drawing a provocative parallel to potential abuses under a future Democratic leader.
Himes targeted Republican support for the operations, warning of the dangers of bypassing legal norms.
“And look, if Lindsey Graham and other Republicans want to go the route of saying it’s okay to kill people illegally just so long as the American public supports it, the American public needs to really think that through,” Himes stated.
He escalated the rhetoric by invoking Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, suggesting MAGA backers should consider the implications of such precedent-setting actions.
The congressman’s comments come amid escalating U.S. military actions in the Caribbean and Pacific, where the administration has conducted at least eight strikes since early September, targeting ships linked to designated terrorist groups involved in drug smuggling.
Himes decried these as “illegal killings,” arguing they erode the rule of law and could invite retaliation against political foes.
Recent Strikes and Casualties in Anti-Drug Campaign
The Trump administration’s aggressive campaign against narco-terrorists has intensified, with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announcing multiple lethal operations in recent weeks.
On October 22, U.S. forces struck a boat in the Pacific Ocean, killing two individuals allegedly carrying narcotics along a smuggling route. Days earlier, on October 17, a vessel tied to the Ejército de Liberación Nacional—a U.S.-designated terrorist group—was hit, resulting in three deaths, as confirmed by Hegseth on October 19.
Another operation on October 3 obliterated a suspected cartel boat off Venezuela’s coast, claiming the lives of all four men aboard.
These incidents are part of a broader series that has drawn international scrutiny and domestic debate over legality, with critics like Himes questioning the absence of congressional authorization and evidence presented for the targets’ guilt.
Hegseth has defended the strikes as essential to national security, likening narco-traffickers to al-Qaeda threats that have claimed more American lives through fentanyl overdoses.
Political Violence Echoes and Broader Context
Himes’ remarks land against a backdrop of heightened political tensions, including the September 10 assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk at a Utah Valley University event, where he was fatally shot by a sniper. Kirk’s death, widely mourned by conservatives and condemned as political violence, saw mixed reactions on the left; Ocasio-Cortez notably voted against a House resolution honoring him and labeled him “ignorant” in floor remarks on September 19.
This tragedy follows two attempts on President Trump’s life in 2024: one in July at a Pennsylvania rally and another in September at his West Palm Beach golf course, where Ryan Routh was convicted on all five counts, including attempted assassination.
Himes urged reflection on these dynamics, cautioning, “You know, there will be a Democratic president someday. And all my MAGA friends who are, you know, cheering on these illegal killings need to imagine who gets killed when President Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says that it doesn’t matter what the law says.”
