In a significant shift within the Biden administration, President Biden’s senior adviser for communications, Anita Dunn, is stepping down from her role to join a super PAC supporting Vice President Kamala Harris.
This marks the first major departure following Biden’s decision to withdraw from seeking a second term, a decision influenced by concerns regarding his mental fitness.
Anita Dunn, a seasoned Democratic strategist, has been a pivotal figure in Biden’s political journey. However, she faced criticism from Biden’s family, who held her partly responsible for the president’s performance in the June 27 debate against former President Donald Trump.
The debate, widely viewed as disastrous, catalyzed a significant shift within the Democratic Party, leading to Biden, 81, stepping aside and endorsing Kamala Harris.
Following her departure announcement, President Biden praised Dunn for her contributions.
“Four years ago, when I launched my campaign for the battle for the soul of our nation, I was grateful Anita Dunn was right there with me,” he remarked.
He emphasized her crucial role in securing the historic 2020 election victory and her invaluable contributions within the White House.
Despite her achievements, Dunn’s tenure has not been without controversy. Last year, she orchestrated an unsuccessful effort to replace press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, amid concerns about Jean-Pierre’s effectiveness as an election-year spokesperson.
Reports indicate that Dunn attempted to ease Jean-Pierre out by enlisting external allies to offer her an alternative role, which Jean-Pierre declined, choosing instead to continue in her current position.
Dunn’s departure also brings attention to her close ties with the administration. She is married to Bob Bauer, Biden’s personal lawyer, who played a key role in helping the president navigate the investigation into the mishandling of classified documents from his previous roles.
The investigation concluded without charges, partially due to Biden’s perceived lack of intent and his age.
Reflecting on her departure, Biden lauded Dunn’s resilience and expertise, saying that she’s “tough and tested, and her experience and intellect have helped us deliver historic results for the American people.”
He further acknowledged her extensive career, noting her service across three administrations and numerous campaigns.
Before her recent role, Dunn served as White House Communications Director under President Barack Obama in 2009.
Between her stints in public office, she accrued significant wealth as a managing director at SKDKnickerbocker, a firm affiliated with Democratic campaigns.
This financial success, alongside her husband’s, raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest, with their investments spanning numerous major corporations.
As Dunn transitions to her new role at Forward Future, her departure signals a notable shift in the Biden administration’s inner circle, highlighting how Leftists are starting to abandon the president since he’s no longer of use to them in their quest to defeat Donald Trump.
