Trump has gotten a lot of crazy requests since becoming president. But perhaps none crazier than this one.
And an ex-Congressman burst into tears when he asked Donald Trump this insane question.
George Santos’ Tearful Plea for Trump’s Mercy
In a raw and emotional appearance on “Piers Morgan Uncensored” Thursday night, former congressman George Santos fought back tears as he begged President Donald Trump for a lifeline—a pardon, commutation, or any form of clemency to spare him from a seven-year prison sentence for defrauding campaign donors. “I’m not an altar boy,” Santos admitted, “but I’m not a hardened criminal.”
The 36-year-old disgraced politician, once a rising star in New York’s Republican circles, laid bare his desperation. “I’ll take a commutation, clemency, whatever the president is willing to give me,” he said, revealing that he only recently began considering a pardon. “President Trump, I’d appreciate if you can give me a consideration,” he added, his plea punctuated by visible emotion.
A Swift Fall from Grace
Santos’ fall from grace has been nothing short of dramatic. Last month, federal Judge Joanna Seybert in Central Islip sentenced him to seven years and three months in prison, alongside a $373,000 fine, after he pleaded guilty in August to wire fraud and identity theft.
The charges stemmed from a May 2023 indictment that ballooned to 23 counts, accusing Santos of swindling donors and pocketing over $24,000 in unemployment benefits while employed. He’s due to surrender to federal authorities on July 25.
Deceptions and Donors
During his 2022 congressional campaign, Santos spun a web of deceit, defrauding dozens of donors—including friends and family—and falsifying campaign finance reports to inflate his fundraising numbers. But his actions didn’t stop there.
A damning House Ethics Committee report found “substantial evidence” that he misused campaign funds for personal indulgences like OnlyFans subscriptions, Botox, spa treatments, and extravagant trips. Rep. Max Miller (R-Ohio) even revealed that he and his mother fell victim to credit card theft by Santos’ campaign.
Expulsion from Congress
Elected to represent New York’s Third Congressional District, a Democratic-leaning area, Santos, an openly gay Republican, served just 11 months before his colleagues expelled him from the House in December 2023.
This rare rebuke—making him only the sixth member in U.S. history to be ousted—followed a litany of lies about his personal and professional background. Democrat Tom Suozzi reclaimed the seat in a special election.
A Final Plea for Leniency
On Thursday, Santos insisted his clemency request wasn’t a “political pitch” but a “fair pitch.” He’s already preparing a formal application, pinning his hopes on Trump’s administration to possibly grant him a pardon.
“I think no one better than Trump to know what a weaponized Justice Department looks like,” Santos said, framing his sentence as excessive. “This is exactly it. Seven years and three months in prison for a first-time offender over campaign matters just screams ‘over the top.’”
