Where there’s smoke, there tends to be fire. And there’s a ton of smoke around the White House.
Because Joe Biden’s disturbing letter with criminal consequences has been intercepted.
Over the past few years, there’s been growing concern that the federal government may be “working” way too closely with social media tech giants to censor so-called “misinformation” from the major social media platforms.
When Elon Musk bought Twitter, he promised to bring more transparency about how the government has been conspiring with platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and more. He’s largely fulfilled that promise with the release of the “Twitter Files” that demonstrated how federal officials had direct communications with employees at Facebook and Twitter.
The purpose of these efforts was to control the flow of information, as we saw when the New York Post’s story about the infamous Hunter Biden laptop was throttled from reaching American readers all over the internet.
While this direct communication between the federal government and private tech companies has come under scrutiny, it appears that the Biden administration is only doubling down on crossing the lines between government bureaucracy and private companies.
The White House plans to send a letter to the heads of many major media outlets, and CNN has seen a draft of the letter, in which they encourage the executives to “ramp up” their critical coverage of House GOP members one day after House Speaker Kevin McCarthy began an impeachment process into President Joe Biden.
The letter, written by White House Counsel’s Office spokesman Ian Sams, will be sent on Wednesday and calls for increased media scrutiny of House Republicans for beginning an impeachment process based on “lies”.
Although a different White House official has claimed that CNN, the New York Times, Fox News, the Associated Press, and CBS News will all receive copies of the letter, such information is not included in the letter itself.
The American people, Sams argued, “rely on the independent press to hold those in power accountable,” and “covering impeachment as a process story — Republicans say X, but the White House says Y — is a disservice to the American public.”
“And in today’s media environment, where everyday liars and hucksters peddle disinformation and lies everywhere from Facebook to Fox,” Sams continued, “process stories that fail to unpack the illegitimacy of the claims on which House Republicans are basing all their actions only serve to generate confusion, put false premises in people’s feeds, and obscure the truth.”
McCarthy (R., Calif.) has started an impeachment inquiry into Biden’s alleged involvement and impact in his son’s international business transactions, including with the Ukrainian energy company Burisma, prompting this formal White House letter. The investigation was approved without a vote in the House.
Speaker Boehner announced that House Oversight Committee chair James Comer (R., Ky.) and House Judiciary Committee chair Jim Jordan (R., Ohio) will continue to lead the investigation into whether the president showed preferential treatment to Hunter Biden because of their relation during the House GOP’s investigation.
“This logical next step will give our committees the full power to gather all the facts and answers for the American public,” McCarthy told reporters on Tuesday. “It’s exactly what we want to know – the answers. I believe the president would want to answer these questions and allegations as well.”
The White House’s position that there is insufficient evidence to launch an impeachment probe was backed up by nine quotes from Republican members of the House included in the document.
Representative Ken Buck of Colorado is one of the Republicans who has spoken out publicly to say that no evidence has been offered. To quote Buck: “The time for impeachment is the time when there is evidence linking President Biden, if there is evidence linking President Biden to a high crime or misdemeanor.”
The memo stated, “Impeachment is grave, rare, and historic,” referencing the Constitutional grounds for impeachment as “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.”
The White House is effectively trying to control the narrative surrounding the upcoming impeachment process, that’s why they are telling media outlets to listen to what the White House says rather than the House Republicans.
Anyone with half a mind can see how ridiculous that is. Obviously, the Biden administration is going to defend the President as much as possible. They will never sell out Joe Biden for potential crimes.
While impeachment processes should be used sparingly, there’s no doubt that the House Republicans have uncovered enough information about the past of Joe Biden during his time as Vice President that deserves the scrutiny of a full investigation. An impeachment process may be the only way to accomplish that, at least in the view of the House Republicans and conservatives.
