The countdown to the Presidential election is on as November is less than six months away and it proves to be one of the most pivotal elections of the past few decades. Everything is on the table for the major political parties.
The Democrat Party is seriously panicking about the election this year, though. They are worried sick that the political atmosphere is far too toxic for them with so many Americans simply frustrated with the federal government’s poor leadership and putting Americans last at every turn.
In 2020, when Donald Trump “lost” to Joe Biden, the Democrats were up on the Republicans by the tune of ten points on the generic ballots heading into that election. Democrats are usually ahead on the generic ballots these days, as it has some overlap with the national popular vote surveys which Democrats regularly control these days.
This year, the script has completely flipped. The generic ballot surveys are effectively tied, showing that the Democrats are likely in for a rough ride this year if the average American voter is split between the two parties. This, of course, includes voters in Democrat strongholds like New York and California.
One of the big factors at play here is that Joe Biden’s former supporters are growing sick and tired of the political games. A recent CNN segment demonstrated just how tired voters are with the Trump Derangement Syndrome from Joe Biden and company.
CNN’s chief national affairs correspondent Jeff Zeleny reported Monday that swing-state voters have expressed feelings of disgust and boredom regarding former President Donald Trump’s trial.
According to New York Times/Siena College polling released on Monday, Trump is leading President Joe Biden among likely voters in several key swing states: by 13% in Nevada, 9% in Georgia, 6% in Arizona, 3% in Pennsylvania, and 1% in Wisconsin. Zeleny noted that this polling suggests Trump’s trial has not negatively impacted his political standing. Instead, voters seem more concerned about the economy.
“This is a reminder that we have no idea at all what the political fallout from this trial will be, if there is any,” Zeleny remarked. “It’s remarkable to think there wouldn’t be any fallout, but in these battleground states crucial for reelection, the former president is ahead of the current president outside the margin of error in every state except Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.”
Zeleny added, “We will have to wait and see what the verdict is and how voters assess it. But as I talk to voters across these battleground states, many aren’t paying attention to the trial and are tired of it. Instead, they’re focused on issues like the economy. President Biden is struggling due to concerns among young voters, voters of color, and issues like inflation, not because of this trial.”
The NYT poll also found that Trump has narrowed Biden’s lead among Black and Hispanic Americans. In the six swing states, Biden leads 70% to 18% among Black voters and 47% to 42% among Hispanic voters.
Host Wolf Blitzer asked, “So it’s still the economy, stupid?” clarifying he was referencing the classic phrase and not insulting Zeleny.
“It seems to be. Inflation is central to many of these concerns. We’ll see how this trial will ultimately impact things, but as of now, it seems to be helping Donald Trump,” Zeleny responded.
Trump faces 34 felony counts in a New York trial for allegedly falsifying business documents related to a payment to porn star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election. Polls conducted since jury selection began indicate that a conviction would not deter voters from supporting Trump in November.
Additionally, many Americans believe Trump did not act illegally or is not being treated fairly in this case, according to polling data.
Blitzer humorously concluded, “It’s not the hush money trial, stupid.”
