It’s not often that a RINO takes a stand for former President Donald Trump. In fact, it’s almost never heard of.

But now the GOP is beside themselves after this RINO issues their rare support of Trump.

There are certainly a decent amount of Never-Trump Republicans in the GOP.

Most of these politicians would also be considered RINOs (Republican In Name Only) and are usually not ones to agree with much of what the Republican Party stands for.

However, after the events of last Saturday which saw former President Trump almost get assassinated, some of these RINOs are displaying their rare support of Trump.

Mitch McConnell Stands with Trump; Calls for Removal Secret Service Director

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has added his voice to the growing number of Republicans advocating for a leadership change at the Secret Service.

McConnell emphasized that the country “deserves answers” regarding the significant security lapse that allowed an attempted assassin to open fire on Donald Trump, resulting in the death of an attendee at the former president’s rally.

“Last week’s near-assassination of former President Trump was a grave attack on American democracy,” Sen. McConnell said in a post on X.

“The nation deserves answers and accountability. New leadership at the Secret Service would be an important step in that direction.”

McConnell’s remarks follow Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle facing intense scrutiny for her role during the agency’s failure to thwart the assassination attempt on Trump at a Pennsylvania rally.

On July 13, a gunman targeted Trump as he addressed enthusiastic crowds in Butler County.

The Secret Service has been heavily criticized for not preventing the alleged shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, from accessing a rooftop about 130 yards from Trump’s podium.

Reports indicated that law enforcement was alerted about the potential threat nearly 90 seconds before the shooting, along with other perceived lapses by the security teams who were at the rally.

McConnell’s call for new leadership aligns with concerns raised by other prominent Republicans about the current Secret Service director.

Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX) and John Barrasso (R-WY) are among those who have criticized Cheatle, while several House conservatives have also urged her to resign.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA), and Representatives Cory Mills (R-FL) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) have all expressed that Cheatle should be replaced.

In response to the mounting pressure, Cheatle agreed on Wednesday to testify before the House Oversight Committee on July 22.
