Biden is completely tone deaf. He’s always saying the wrong things at the wrong time.
And Joe Biden got caught calling Americans this one appalling name.
President Biden made a strong call for unity in the wake of Hurricane Helene’s devastation during a briefing in Raleigh, NC on Wednesday, urging Americans to set aside politics in the recovery efforts. However, his appeal for solidarity was quickly overshadowed by a sharp critique aimed at those who question the role of climate change in the disaster, remarking that such skepticism reflects a “brain dead” mindset. So much for unity then.
“In a moment like this, we put politics aside, at least we should put it all aside, and we have here,” the 81-year-old president stated. His message came after an aerial tour of the Asheville region, one of the hardest-hit areas. Joined by North Carolina’s Democratic Governor Roy Cooper and emergency officials, Biden emphasized the need for a nonpartisan response to help those in need.
“There are no Democrats or Republicans, there are only Americans, and our job is to help as many people as we can, as quickly as we can, and as thoroughly as we can,” he said.
But just moments later, Biden veered into criticism of mostly Republican climate change skeptics, igniting backlash. “Nobody can deny the impact of [the] climate crisis anymore — at least I hope they don’t. They must be brain dead if they do,” Biden said bluntly, referencing the role of warming oceans in intensifying storms like Helene.
“Scientists report that with warming oceans powering more intense rains, storms like Helene are getting stronger and stronger — they’re not going to get less, they’re going to get stronger.”
Hurricane Helene has claimed the lives of at least 189 people across six states, with North Carolina alone accounting for 70 of those fatalities. As of Wednesday, over 100 North Carolina residents were still unaccounted for.
Despite the president’s intention to focus on relief efforts, his harsh rhetoric toward climate change deniers quickly became a flashpoint, particularly as some residents criticized the government’s slow response in the storm’s aftermath.
Former President Donald Trump’s campaign was quick to respond, tweeting, “Biden — the uniter-in-chief — says Americans ‘must be brain dead’ if they ‘deny’ the hurricane damage is because of climate change.”

Conservative commentator Leo Terrell added, “Comatose and cognitively declined Joe Biden is calling Americans like me brain dead. This is a joke, Right?”
Biden’s leadership in managing the storm has drawn scrutiny, especially for monitoring the disaster’s early days from his beach house in Delaware. When asked about whether he should have overseen the response from the White House, the president bristled at the suggestion, responding, “It’s called a telephone!”

Additionally, Biden had to clarify an earlier statement made on Sunday, where he claimed no further resources were needed for storm response. By Wednesday, he acknowledged that more federal funding would be required, stating, “It’s going to cost billions of dollars to deal with this storm… and Congress has an obligation to ensure states have the resources they need.”
The president’s tour of North Carolina and South Carolina coincided with Vice President Kamala Harris’s visit to storm-hit Augusta, Georgia. Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, has also faced criticism for her handling of the crisis, including a controversial post on X showing her in a campaign photo where she appeared to wear unplugged headphones.
I was just briefed by @FEMA_Deanne Criswell on the latest developments about the ongoing impacts of Hurricane Helene. We also discussed our Administration's continued actions to support emergency response and recovery.

North Carolina Congressman Chuck Edwards (R-NC), who represents some of the hardest-hit areas, expressed frustration at the slow federal response. “The people in western North Carolina feel let down, deservedly so,” Edwards told NewsNation on Monday. “We’ve begun to see some resources brought in today, but the storm was over about 80 hours ago… We knew that the storm was coming and only today are we beginning to see the first FEMA employees and trailers and helicopters come in.”
As the recovery efforts continue, Biden’s call for unity fell absolutely flat as he was quick to call people “brain dead” if they deny climate change. It’s definitely time for Americans to get new leadership in the Oval Office.
