Trump is throwing out past grudges in order to get things done. He’s only focused on helping the country bounce back at this point.

And Donald Trump has picked a former political rival to join his admin in a move that’s shocking everyone.

Former GOP 2024 Presidential Candidate Doug Burgum Tapped as Trump’s Pick for Interior Secretary

In a major cabinet announcement, President-elect Donald Trump has selected North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum to serve as Secretary of the Department of the Interior. Trump made the reveal Thursday during remarks at the America First Policy Institute gala held at his Mar-a-Lago estate.

“He’s going to head the Department of Interior, and he’s going to be fantastic,” Trump said, praising Burgum’s leadership.

The president-elect hinted at a formal announcement to come on Friday and teased the possibility of unveiling another significant appointment alongside Burgum.

“[Burgum is] going to be announced tomorrow, and we have somebody else who is probably coming up with him to be announced, who is a big one,” Trump said, adding, “We’re going to do things with energy and with land, interior, that are going to be incredible.”

Burgum, 68, has led energy-rich North Dakota since 2016 and was re-elected in 2020 before announcing earlier this year that he would not seek a third term. Known for his pragmatic and business-focused governance, Burgum frequently emphasizes “data-driven” decision-making.

The governor is a staunch supporter of expanding domestic energy production, a stance he highlighted during his brief campaign for the Republican presidential nomination earlier this year. He endorsed Trump after ending his bid and became a visible figure at rallies backing the president-elect.

Burgum was reportedly considered as a potential running mate before Trump selected Vice President-elect JD Vance.

With a background in tech, Burgum was CEO of Great Plains Software, which Microsoft acquired in 2001. He stayed with Microsoft as a senior vice president until 2007 before transitioning to politics.

As interior secretary, Burgum will oversee roughly 640 million acres of federal land and a department of 70,000 employees.

His role will involve managing public land resources and promoting energy development on federal lands and waters—a key component of Trump’s agenda.

The president-elect has vowed to slash energy costs by 50% in his first year in office, promising to unleash the full potential of the American energy sector.

Policies promoting aggressive energy production, including “Drill, baby, drill,” are expected to be prioritized starting on Trump’s first day in office.

According to reports, Trump’s energy team has already drafted executive orders to open western lands for drilling and mining.

The administration also plans to appoint an “energy czar” to spearhead efforts aimed at expanding fossil fuel production and cutting regulations.

Burgum’s appointment positions him at the forefront of these ambitious goals, with his experience in both politics and business making him a pivotal player in shaping the future of America’s energy landscape.
