Democrats are in trouble. They may not have a party anymore.
And the Democrat Party is on the verge of collapse thanks to this bombshell report.
New Poll Shows Deepening Discontent with Democratic Party
According to a new Quinnipiac University poll, 57% of voters hold an unfavorable view of the Democratic Party, while only 31% see it in a positive light. The Republican Party fares somewhat better, with a 43% favorability rating and 45% unfavorability.
The Democratic Party’s unpopularity has reached its highest level since Quinnipiac began tracking the question in 2008. At the same time, the GOP is experiencing its highest favorability rating in that period.
A Political Landscape in Flux
These numbers come in the wake of the 2024 election, which saw every state shift rightward, leaving Democrats grappling with their identity and strategy moving forward. Internally, party leaders are struggling to regain momentum. Former President Joe Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris have largely stayed out of the spotlight since Donald Trump’s return to power.
Meanwhile, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) is urging his colleagues to stay focused on economic concerns rather than Trump’s frequent headline-making statements, according to NBC News.
Trump’s Popularity and Policy Moves
Trump’s early actions in his second term are resonating with voters. His decision to send troops to the U.S.-Mexico border enjoys 60% approval, according to the Quinnipiac poll. However, public opinion remains divided on other key issues.
While the Trump administration is working to revoke birthright citizenship for children of undocumented immigrants, the poll shows strong opposition—61% of voters believe these children should automatically receive citizenship, compared to 30% who disagree.
Trump’s controversial pardon of approximately 1,500 people charged in connection with the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot is also facing pushback. Fifty-seven percent of voters disapprove, though 74% of Republicans support the decision.
Biden’s Pardons and Other Policy Debates
On the other side, Biden’s preemptive pardons for five members of his family, including his brother James, are being met with strong disapproval. By a margin of 62% to 31%, voters opposed the move.
Americans are also wary of Trump’s foreign policy ambitions. The idea of annexing Greenland is unpopular, with 55% opposed. However, opinion is evenly split on the prospect of reclaiming the Panama Canal Zone, with 45% in favor and 45% against.
Tariffs remain a point of contention as well—48% of voters believe they will harm the U.S. economy, while 42% expect them to be beneficial.
Trump Begins Second Term with Net Positive Approval
Unlike his first inauguration in 2017, when he had a negative approval rating (36% approve, 44% disapprove), Trump now enters his second term with a net positive rating—46% of voters approve of his performance so far, while 43% disapprove.
The Quinnipiac poll surveyed 1,019 registered voters nationwide from January 23–27, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percent.
