Joe has been pretending that he’s squeaky clean. But nothing could be further from the truth.
And now an anonymous Biden donor completely changes the 2024 election with one crazy move.
President Joe Biden’s 2024 presidential campaign stated this week that the stakes in the future race are “sky high,” thus it will once again accept dark money donations, after earlier rejecting such donations.
Biden’s campaign made the comment to CBS News, which was reporting on a big $64 million anonymous donation to his campaign in 2020.
The payment was made to his campaign account through the Impetus Fund, a 501c4 tax-exempt entity that claims to focus on “social welfare.”
This commitment to take dark money follows Biden’s prior statement that dark money “erodes public trust” and “flows in the shadows to influence our elections.”
However, as in 2020, Biden has once again signaled that he has no problem accepting money that is channeled to his campaign coffers without investigation.
“The stakes of this election are sky high,” a Biden adviser told CBS. “We will protect our democracy with every tool that is legally available.”
The attention on Biden’s receipt of dark money raises unanswered questions about the unexplained $64 million donation. A major portion of that donation ($55 million) was transferred from Impetus to Future Forward USA Action, a nonprofit Biden super PAC.
Then, Future Forward USA Action paid $60 million to Future Forward PAC for electioneering purposes, according to CBS News.
Because the funds were delivered to the organization first, the donor/donors were protected from liability.
The Impetus Fund, based in Washington, DC, says it “works with changemakers across the country to unlock a more inclusive, accessible, and vibrant democracy.” That’s about all we know.
Ezra Reese, the group’s president, has ties to Marc Elias, a Democratic election lawyer. Reese is the political law chair for the Elias Law Group.
Impetus is an initiative of Arabella Advisors, a major leftist dark money organization with approximately $3 billion on hand for the 2022 midterm elections. In 2020, it had $410 million to wield against former President Donald Trump and Senate Republicans.
Biden’s acceptance of dark money contributions has prompted condemnation from government watchdog organizations.
“For too long the left has been playing a game of decrying dark money while at the same time being fully dependent on it, even supercharging Mr. Biden’s reelection campaign,” Caitlin Sutherland, the executive director of Americans for Public Trust, told CBS.
According to Anna Massoglia, editorial and investigations manager at OpenSecrets, dark money conceals critical information about who is attempting to influence American voters.
“Without information about who is funding groups spending to influence elections, voters won’t know who is trying to color their views, won’t be aware of any potential conflicts of interest that a funder has or what stake they may have in the outcome of the election,” she said.
So far in the 2024 election cycle, Biden has had a substantial financial advantage, but Trump has been closing the gap in recent months, because to big hulls and court battles.
