Because astronomical levels of fraud were just exposed by the White House.
In a decisive blow to welfare fraud, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins revealed Thursday that the Trump administration will mandate universal reapplication for SNAP benefits after auditors discovered 186,000 bogus claims—including checks sent to the DEAD—across 29 Republican-led states.
The aggressive purge positions the White House to rebuild the $100 billion program from the ground up, guaranteeing aid flows solely to the genuinely destitute.
“Can you imagine when we get our hands on the blue state data what we’re going to find?” Rollins asked on Newsmax’s “Rob Schmitt Tonight.”
Fraud on a Staggering Scale Uncovered
Rollins disclosed that “186,000 deceased men and women and children in this country are receiving a check” via SNAP in the reviewed red states.
“It’s going to give us a platform and a trajectory to fundamentally rebuild this program, have everyone reapply for their benefit, make sure that everyone that’s taking a taxpayer-funded benefit through SNAP or food stamps, that they literally are vulnerable, and they can’t survive without it,” she stated.
The initiative builds on last week’s Ohio sweep, where 120 suspects were arrested following an 11-month investigation into 17,000 illicit transactions.
“These are the things that we’re uncovering that, for years, no one has really ever dug into because the feds didn’t have the system in place to do it. But we do now,” Rollins said.
“The president has made this a priority. We will fix this program.”
Post-Shutdown Benefits Fully Restored
The move follows the Trump team’s order—issued as the record-long government shutdown ended—to temporarily pause full November SNAP payouts in certain states.
Rollins assured that all eligible recipients will receive complete benefits starting Monday.
Serving nearly 42 million Americans at a cost of roughly $100 billion annually, SNAP has long required state-level recertification every six months.
Yet Rollins labeled the system “corrupt,” vowing Trump’s new federal tools will finally eliminate the waste. The USDA offered no specifics on reapplication logistics; requests for comment went unanswered.
