Attempt on this congressman’s life has Washington, D.C. on high alert

U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar

Being in a position of public office has its risks. But no one expected this.

And an attempt on this congressman’s life has Washington, D.C. on high alert.

Big cities across America are becoming more dangerous thanks to Leftists’ soft-on-crime policies.

U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) experienced this type of dangerous crime on Monday night in Washington, D.C.

Cuellar was held at gunpoint and carjacked “at approximately 9:32 pm at the intersection of New Jersey and K Street,” according to the Washington Examiner.

In addition to having several guns pointed at his head, Cuellar also had his phone stolen.

The Congressman was able to survive the incident relatively unscathed, and his vehicle has been recovered.

“As Congressman Cuellar was parking his car this evening, three armed assailants approached the congressman and stole his vehicle,” Jacob Hochberg, Henry Cuellar’s chief of staff told the New York Post.

“Luckily, he was not harmed and is working with local law enforcement. Thank you to Metro PD and Capitol Police for their swift action and for recovering the congressman’s vehicle.”

The Metropolitan Police Department in the district reported that the suspects were “three black males wearing all black clothing.”

The Washington Examiner also reports that no official word of any arrests have been made.

Unfortunately, Cuellar isn’t the first member of Congress to be caught up in a violent crime in Washington, D.C. this year.

At the beginning of the year, Congresswoman Angie Craig (D-MN) was violently attacked in an elevator of her apartment complex.

And shortly after, one of Senator Rand Paul’s (R-KY) staffers was attacked at knife-point in the middle of the day, near Craig’s apartment building in D.C.

Carjackings aren’t an uncommon crime in D.C. according to the New York Post.

“To date, 750 carjackings have been reported in DC this year alone, with 75% involving a firearm,” the Post reports.

“That is a 115% increase in the number of carjackings from this time last year, according to DC police crime statistics.”

Perhaps the Mayor of Washington, D.C., Muriel Bowser (D) should look to get a handle on her district’s heightened crime rates.

She should also avoid listening to any of her Democrat peers on how to handle crime, as their cities are also in disarray.
