American politics are in a dire state right now. Common sense is being quickly thrown out the window.
And a blue state Governor has endorsed a dangerous communist in this critical election.
In a stunning betrayal of common-sense New Yorkers, Governor Kathy Hochul has thrown her support behind extreme leftist Zohran Mamdani for mayor of New York City. This bombshell came via a guest essay in The New York Times on Sunday night, right after her team spent the entire campaign trying to dodge the controversial candidate like a bad investment.
“The question of who will be the next mayor is one I take extremely seriously and to which I have devoted a great deal of thought,” Hochul wrote. “Tonight I am endorsing Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani.”
The New York Post had already sniffed out Hochul’s likely nod to Mamdani earlier that evening, but now it’s official. Despite admitting to some heated clashes, the governor claims she’s all in on this far-left pick.
“In the past few months, I’ve had frank conversations with him. We’ve had our disagreements,” Hochul stated. “But in our conversations, I heard a leader who shares my commitment to a New York where children can grow up safe in their neighborhoods and where opportunity is within reach for every family. I heard a leader who is focused on making New York City affordable — a goal I enthusiastically support.”
Hochul highlighted chats about making the city cheaper for everyday folks, putting tough leaders in charge of the NYPD, and cracking down hard on the surge in antisemitism plaguing the streets.
“New York City deserves a mayor who will stand up to Donald Trump and make life more affordable for New Yorkers. That’s @ZohranKMamdani,” Hochul said in a post on X.
Mamdani, quick to grab the lifeline, expressed his thanks and eagerness to team up with the governor. “Governor Hochul has made affordability the centerpiece of her work. I look forward to fighting alongside her to continue her track record of putting money back in New Yorkers’ pockets and building a safer and stronger New York City where no one is forced to leave just so they can afford to raise a family,” he stated.
“I’m grateful to the Governor for her support in unifying our party — as well as the work she’s done standing up to President Trump, securing free lunch meals for our kids, and expanding access to childcare.”
This endorsement is like a starter pistol for other waffling Democrats, clearing the path for big names like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries to jump on board, per sources.
Party sources insist Hochul’s move will drag the rest of the Democratic elite along, whether they like it or not.
“This puts tremendous pressure on Jeffries and everyone who hasn’t endorsed Mamdani yet,” a source explained. “Hochul is the ultimate bellwether of where the New York democratic party’s center is. She’s shown she will push back when needed against the left but this shifts the center of gravity definitively and now we will watch to see what else she moves in her orbit and who will get lost in space.”
It’s a risky gamble for Hochul, given Mamdani’s toxic reputation in the suburbs where polls show him as welcome as a tax hike. Nassau County Republicans are already weaponizing this to hammer their Democratic foes.
Back in 2021, Hochul wisely steered clear of endorsing socialist India Walton in Buffalo’s mayoral race, where the incumbent Byron Brown fought back and won as a write-in. But now, with her own reelection looming and left-wing challengers circling, she’s buckling under progressive heat.
A Democratic insider pointed out Hochul’s desperate need for massive turnout from city voters, since she’s radioactive in the suburbs and upstate regions.
“She needs to get the city vote out to survive. It’s toxic for Hochul in the suburbs,” the source explained.
Operative Ken Frydman warned to the New York Post that Mamdani’s backing could boomerang on Hochul if he reciprocates.
“Mamdani’s return endorsement would cut both ways for Hochul,” he stated. “It would help her in New York City, but hurt in mid-state, upstate and in downstate suburbs. Hochul’s scared to death of the DSA tag and should be.”
