Tuesday night’s election results were shocking. There was a large consensus that it would be a coin flip of an election and that either Donald Trump or Kamala Harris could win.
Some political commentators were bullish about Trump’s chances right as the polls closed. But many of them didn’t expect him to win by the margin he did.
They also didn’t expect Kamala Harris to perform as poorly as she did. Jake Tapper, a host on CNN, was particularly shocked when he saw the results stream in on Tuesday night.
And his reaction to those results tells the whole story about how the Left felt about Harris’s performance.

CNN anchor Jake Tapper sparked a viral moment Wednesday morning when he reacted to news that Vice President Kamala Harris failed to surpass President Biden’s 2020 performance in even a single state.
Tapper, visibly taken aback, asked CNN’s chief national correspondent John King to display a graphic identifying any states where Harris had achieved at least 3% more votes than Biden had in the last election. What followed was a surprising revelation.
On screen, the graphic appeared with a completely gray map — not a single state highlighted to show an improvement. Tapper, stunned, responded, “Holy smokes! Literally nothing?”
“Literally nothing,” King responded, driving home the point.

The map, which would have showcased any states where Harris saw a notable 3% gain over Biden’s results, remained blank, leaving both Tapper and viewers surprised by the lack of improvement. Tapper, still grappling with the results, asked, “Literally not one county?”
King then zoomed in, switching the view to counties instead of states, and found that Harris had outperformed Biden by 3% or more in only 58 counties nationwide.
“So in counties, in 58 counties,” King clarified, adding context. “We just showed Donald Trump was over a thousand counties of the 4,600 counties and townships across America.”
King went on to note that while a few additional counties might eventually show a slight uptick for Harris as vote counting continued, the critical battleground states reflected a challenging scenario for her.
“In the states that matter — again, I just showed you all those Trump counties — in one county in battleground Pennsylvania, she’s outperforming President Biden by 3% or more,” he said.
Former President Donald Trump officially claimed victory early Wednesday after overturning his 2020 losses in key states such as Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
