Secrets are impossible to keep in Washington, D.C. One way or another, the skeletons in your closet will be exposed.
And a Democrat congressman’s dark past was unearthed in a newly released report.
Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) was the subject of a Daily Beast report that came out Monday night which detailed his troubled past.
Bowman was once a principal of a middle school, and during that time he wrote things like poetry and other sorts of posts that went up on a blog which was known for spouting off conspiracy theories.
Some of the conspiracy theories posted on the blog were about 9/11.
Bowman hasn’t denied that he made posts on the blog, but they have been deleted since before February 2016. There are still archived posts of his, however.
“After being asked about his writing, the New York Democrat disavowed it – saying in a statement Monday that he ‘regrets’ his posts and does not believe in those theories,” the Daily Beast reports.
“‘Well over a decade ago, as I was debating diving into a doctoral degree, I explored a wide range of books, films, and articles across a wide swath of the political spectrum and processed my thoughts in a personal blog that few people ever read,’ Bowman said, though he did not address whether he gave credence to the conspiracy theories at the time.”
Bowman also tried to divert from the conspiracy theories that he’s linked to, by referencing “MAGA extremists” and the conspiracy theories they allegedly spread.
“In his statement Monday, Bowman said: ‘I don’t believe anything that these cranks have said, and my life’s work has proven that. As a Congressman, I’ve written a Congressional Resolution condemning a dangerous conspiracy theory, I’ve stood up to MAGA extremists, and I’ve called out the endless bulls**t of the far right.'”
“He added that he has ‘learned how misinformation spreads’ since the time of the blog post and ‘I regret posting anything about any of these people. Anyone who looks at my work today knows where I stand.'”
One of the poems Bowman wrote, as reported by the Daily Beast, says, “2001/Planes used as missiles/Target: The Twin Towers. Later in the day/Building 7/Also Collapsed [sic]/Hmm…/Multiple explosions/Heard before/And during the collapse/Hmm…”
Rep. Bowman was referencing a popular conspiracy about 9/11 which was that Building 7 collapsed due to a controlled demolition.
That was proven false after the National Institute of Standards and Technology came to the conclusion that the building collapsed because of debris from the Twin Towers which fell on the building causing a fire to start and weaken it’s overall structure.
Bowman repeated other lies and conspiracies throughout the poem as well.
The Democrat congressman has now covered himself in more controversy.
Back in September, he pulled a fire alarm in a House building while members of Congress were voting on avoiding a government shutdown.
Bowman was charged for the incident but made a deal that would take away the charge.
He was also censured in December by Congress.
