Feinstein’s final exit from the Senate may be sooner than you think. And the frontrunner to replace her is worse than you can imagine.
And Dianne Feinstein’s replacement was just uncovered in this leaked report.
At the ripe old age of 89, Dianne Feinstein is the oldest sitting Senator of the United States.
After her multi-month absence due to an ostensible bout against shingles, she returned in a wheelchair and an eye she couldn’t open.
Well, we found out it was because she also dealt with encephalitis – inflammation of the brain.
Many on the Left have pushed for her to retire thanks to her rapid mental decline.
Now we’re getting an inside look at who could replace her.
According to a source, media mogul Oprah Winfrey is being considered as a possible replacement for the ailing Feinstein, should the 89-year-old politician step down before the conclusion of her term.
Newsom has previously stated that if Feinstein’s seat becomes available, he will appoint a black woman.
Winfrey, a Democrat and billionaire talk show presenter, would be an ideal candidate.
During the 2022 midterm elections, Winfrey entered the fray, endorsing several Democrats in high-profile races, including John Fetterman in Pennsylvania, Cheri Beasley in North Carolina, Val Demmings in Florida, Mandela Barnes in Wisconsin, Beto O’Rourke in Texas, Raphael Warnock in Georgia, and Stacey Abrams in Georgia.
Winfrey was considered as a prospective presidential candidate in the run-up to the 2020 election, although she has repeatedly denied running for president.
For instance, in a November 2018 speech during one of Abrams’ Georgia gubernatorial runs, Winfrey said, “I am not here because I am making some grandstand, because I’m thinking about running myself. I don’t want to run. I am not trying to test any waters, don’t want to go in those waters.”
Several notable Democrats, including black California Rep. Barbara Lee and white California Reps. Katie Porter and Adam Schiff, have already entered the campaign to take Feinstein’s seat when her term expires.
In the event that Feinstein departs, Newsom’s selection of Lee for a short-term Senate appointment would certainly catapult her to frontrunner position in 2024.
The Los Angeles Times reported on Thursday that Feinstein is being hidden from reporters and photographers on Capitol Hill by aides and the Senate sergeant-at-arms.
According to the New York Times, a source close to the senator described her health as “frightening,” citing her shingles-related visual and balance deficits, as well as facial paralysis known as Ramsay Hunt syndrome.
She also got encephalitis, an uncommon side effect that can cause the brain to enlarge and impact her language skills, sleep, and emotions.
When asked by reporters, the senator recently professed uncertainty regarding her whereabouts, stating that she had not left Congress to recover from the sickness and had instead been voting the entire time.
Reps. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) and Dean Phillips (D-Minn.) called on Feinstein to quit last month.
“It’s time for [Feinstein] to resign,” Khanna said. “We need to put the country ahead of personal loyalty. While she has had a lifetime of public service, it is obvious she can no longer fulfill her duties. Not speaking out undermines our credibility as elected representatives of the people.”
