Trump may have won, but his enemies are still out to get him. They won’t rest until they’ve brought him down for good.
And Donald Trump has been attacked by these unhinged Democrats for winning the 2024 election.
New York Leaders Brace for Battle with Incoming Trump Administration
In a striking post-election press conference Wednesday, New York Governor Kathy Hochul and Attorney General Letitia James presented a united front against President-elect Donald Trump, whom they regard as a political adversary. The tone of the conference was unyielding as the two Democratic leaders outlined their readiness to counter policies they anticipate from the new administration.
Governor Hochul unveiled her new “Empire State Freedom Initiative” to prepare New York for what she characterized as “policy and regulatory threats” from Washington under Trump’s leadership. While she affirmed a willingness to cooperate with the federal government, much of her speech centered on bolstering New York’s defenses against potential rollbacks on radical Leftist issues.
“You try to harm New Yorkers or roll back their rights, I will fight you every step of the way,” Hochul declared from her Manhattan office. She specifically cited concerns over possible conflicts with the Trump administration on issues including abortion rights, labor protections, LGBTQ rights, environmental policies, and immigration.
Attorney General James echoed Hochul’s sentiment, affirming her office’s commitment to protecting New York residents. “I am ready to do everything in my power to ensure our state and nation do not go backwards,” James said in a statement.
“Together with Governor Hochul, our partners in state and local government, and my colleague attorneys general from throughout the nation, we will work each and every day to defend Americans, no matter what this new administration throws at us. We are ready to fight back again.”
James’s appearance at the press conference was significant, highlighting her preparation to wage more law-fare against Trump.
In recent years, James has made headlines with her high-profile legal battles against the former president, including a $454 million civil fraud judgment that accused Trump of inflating his net worth to secure favorable loan and insurance terms. Trump has since appealed the ruling, but James remains undeterred. “I am not fearful of Donald Trump. I have not been fearful of Donald Trump,” she told reporters when asked about her high-stakes legal cases against him.
For Hochul, Trump’s victory, marked by a stronger performance in New York than in 2020, was treated more as a warning than a celebration. “New Yorkers will persevere over the next four years,” she stated solemnly.
She expressed expectations that Trump’s administration would continue to fund critical infrastructure projects, such as the Second Avenue subway extension and the Hudson River tunnel, while voicing concerns that the state and local tax deduction cap might be lifted.
Reactions from New York Republicans were swift and condemnatory. State Republican Party chairman Ed Cox called Hochul’s press conference “out of her mind,” labeling it as “dumb and bizarre.”
House GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik echoed this, saying Hochul’s stance disregarded the significant number of New Yorkers who supported Trump. “President Trump performed better in New York than any Republican presidential candidate since Ronald Reagan,” Stefanik pointed out. She accused James of using the attorney general’s office as a tool of political retribution, contributing to Trump’s rise in New York.
Lee Zeldin, former Long Island congressman and former gubernatorial candidate, also criticized Hochul’s response as divisive. “Today should be a day for New York and America to move forward from a hard-fought political campaign,” Zeldin said. He suggested that Hochul’s partisanship alienates many New Yorkers and has made her increasingly unpopular within her own party as well as with broader constituencies.
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman echoed these criticisms, calling it “inconceivable” that a sitting governor would show such open hostility toward an elected president.
He cautioned that Hochul’s “defiant, war-like stance” would only worsen New York’s challenges, saying, “Rather than being gracious and trying to work together, Hochul took a defiant, war-like stance against President-elect Trump. This strategy will add to the continued decline of New York.”
As Donald Trump prepares to assume office, New York’s Democratic leadership has made clear they view his administration as a threat to New Yorkers.
They will stop at nothing to try and bring Trump down because of this radical idea that he is indeed a threat.
