Iran Labels Trump a “Gambler” Amid Escalating Conflict Over Nuclear Strikes

In a statement on Monday, Iran condemned U.S. President Donald Trump as a “gambler” for ordering devastating airstrikes on its nuclear facilities, warning that America will face consequences for aligning with Israel in its ongoing conflict with the Islamic Republic.

The accusation came as tensions between the nations reached a boiling point, with Iran and Israel exchanging missile and air strikes in a rapidly intensifying regional crisis.

“Mr Trump, the gambler, you may start this war, but we will be the ones to end it,” declared Ebrahim Zolfaqari, a spokesman for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya central military headquarters, in a chilling video message. The provocative words followed U.S. strikes over the weekend that targeted Iran’s nuclear sites, an operation Trump hailed as a decisive blow to Tehran’s ambitions.

The U.S. unleashed 75 precision-guided munitions, including massive bunker-buster bombs and over two dozen Tomahawk missiles, on three Iranian nuclear facilities early Sunday. Experts analyzing satellite imagery reported severe damage to the Fordow nuclear plant, with its uranium-enriching centrifuges likely obliterated.

Trump celebrated the operation on Truth Social, proclaiming, “Monumental Damage was done to all Nuclear sites in Iran. The biggest damage took place far below ground level. Bullseye!!!”

He described the strikes as a “Bullseye!!!” in another post, though U.S. defense officials have stated that they are still assessing the full extent of the destruction.

The strikes were authorized after diplomatic efforts to resolve the Israel-Iran conflict faltered. According to three U.S. officials cited by Axios, any sort of diplomacy collapsed when Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, went into hiding amid fears of an Israeli assassination attempt. With Khamenei unreachable and no path to a nuclear agreement, Trump greenlit the military operation on Saturday.

Iran, which insists its nuclear program is solely for peaceful purposes, retaliated with missiles aimed at Israel, causing injuries and destroying buildings in Tel Aviv.

Israel responded overnight with 20 jets striking military targets in western Iran and Tehran, including missile and radar infrastructure in Kermanshah and a surface-to-air missile launcher in the capital, according to the Israeli military.

Amid the chaos, Trump hinted at the possibility of a leadership shake-up in Iran, writing on Truth Social, “It’s not politically correct to use the term, ‘Regime Change,’ but if the current Iranian Regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn’t there be a Regime change???”

He punctuated the post with “MIGA!!!”—a rallying cry echoing his “Make America Great Again” slogan.

However, his administration has emphasized that the strikes targeted Iran’s nuclear capabilities, not its government. “This mission was not and has not been about regime change,” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated firmly on Sunday.

Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed this sentiment, stressing that diplomacy remains the objective and that the U.S. is not at war with Iran, only its nuclear program. Yet Trump has warned of further strikes if Iran retaliates against U.S. forces.
