Trump’s White House isn’t playing games. They won’t let America’s adversaries walk all over them.
And Iran is rocked with an ominous threat from the White House for this terrifying reason.
Trump Warns of Severe Retaliation if Iran Assassinates Him
Former President Donald Trump issued a stark warning on Tuesday, declaring that Iran would face total destruction if it carried out an assassination attempt against him. Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump revealed that he had already put an order in place to ensure immediate retaliation should such an event occur.
“If they did that, they would be obliterated. That would be the end,” Trump stated while signing an order aimed at intensifying pressure on Tehran.
“I’ve left instructions. If they do it, they get obliterated. There won’t be anything left, and they shouldn’t be able to do it. And Biden should have said that, but he never did. I don’t know why. Lack of intelligence, perhaps,” he added.
The former president acknowledged that he was signing the maximum-pressure directive reluctantly, emphasizing its purpose: preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
Rising Tensions with Iran
Iran has reportedly plotted to assassinate Trump and other former officials from his administration as revenge for the 2020 U.S. drone strike that k*lled Gen. Qasem Soleimani. Despite these threats, Trump recently ordered the removal of security details assigned to former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former national security adviser John Bolton.
Meanwhile, Iran’s leadership has allegedly engaged in cyberattacks targeting individuals associated with Trump, with the apparent goal of disrupting his 2024 presidential campaign.
Economic Pressure and Sanctions
The Biden administration faced bipartisan calls to strengthen economic sanctions on Iran, particularly regarding its oil exports. A coalition of 62 House lawmakers—including Democratic Representatives Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell—urged President Joe Biden to enforce sanctions as Iranian oil exports nearly doubled compared to 2019 and 2020 levels.
“Iran now exports more than 1.4 million barrels of crude oil daily, over 80% of which goes to China. From February 2021 to October 2023, the regime has taken at least $88 billion from these illicit oil exports,” the group said.
“Iran is deriving significant economic benefits from pervasive sanctions evasion, with Iran’s annual economic growth increasing by more than four percent and net foreign currency reserves up by 45 percent,” they added.
Congressional Republicans also pushed Biden to revoke a sanctions waiver which allowed Iraq to pay Iran for electricity, warning that the arrangement could give Iran access to $10 billion.
The $6 Billion Controversy
In 2023, the Biden administration reached a deal to release $6 billion in frozen Iranian oil revenue held by South Korea. The agreement, made in exchange for Iran’s release of five imprisoned Iranian-Americans, specified that the funds would be held in Qatar for humanitarian purchases like food and medicine.
However, following the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel—which resulted in approximately 1,200 deaths—U.S. and Qatari officials reportedly decided to quietly pause the fund’s distribution.
As tensions with Iran continue to rise, Trump’s warning signals that the issue of U.S. policy toward Tehran is likely to heat up now that Joe Biden is no longer in office.
