As vice president, the last thing you want to see are Secret Service agents rushing to combat. It could very well mean your life is an immediate danger.
And Kamala Harris is in utter disbelief after her Secret Service protective detail was caught up in an all out fight.
On Monday, Andrews Air Force Base was the location of a bizarre scene involving Secret Service agents who were part of Vice President Kamala Harris’ protection detail.
One agent, whose name has been kept anonymous according to the Washington Examiner, got into an unarmed fight with other agents in what was described as a medical related occurrence.
Harris had not yet arrived at the air force base, which is located near Washington, D.C., when the fight happened.
The Washington Examiner reports that the Secret Service agent started to get aggressive with their fellow agents.
When attempts were made to try and calm the agent down, a physical fight broke out.
Eventually, the distressed agent was put into handcuffs and led away for medical attention.
“At approximately 9 a.m. April 22, a U.S. Secret Service special agent supporting the Vice President’s departure from Joint Base Andrews began displaying behavior their colleagues found distressing,” Anthony Guglielmi, the Secret Service Chief of Communications, said to the Washington Examiner.
“The agent was removed from their assignment while medical personnel were summoned. The Vice President was at the Naval Observatory when this incident occurred and there was no impact on her departure from Joint Base Andrews.”
“The U.S. Secret Service takes the safety and health of our employees very seriously. As this was a medical matter, we will not disclose any further details,” Guglielmi added.
When working in a domestic setting, every Secret Service agent is armed.
Thankfully this physical altercation did not include the use of any sort of firearms.
Protecting the president and the vice president of the United States is no easy task.
Secret Service agents have to deal with long hours, time away from their homes, and tons of stress.
That could easily lead to an agent having a breakdown in some way or fashion.
There is no current update on the status of the agent who suffered the medical emergency, according to the Washington Examiner.
Kamala Harris’ office also did not provide a comment after the news outlet requested one.
Hopefully the agent can have a quick recovery and is able to return to their post sooner than later.
