Leftists keep tripping over themselves. Their finding new ways to lose popularity amongst Americans.

And this leading Democrat in Congress just ended their career by making a highly offensive comment.

Vermont Congresswoman Faces Backlash Over Immigration Comments

In a recent town hall in Newport, Vermont, Representative Becca Balint (D-Vt.) ignited a firestorm with a provocative statement about immigration policy. Addressing concerns about President Trump’s immigration crackdown, Balint remarked that it could leave Vermonters without “anyone around to wipe our a–es.”

The comment, which she herself described as “crude,” has drawn sharp criticism from political opponents and sparked a heated debate about immigration in the Green Mountain State.

During the event, Balint emphasized the critical role immigrants play in Vermont’s economy. “Our economy is completely bound up in immigration and migrant labor,” she told attendees, stressing the need for Congress to treat immigration as an “existential issue for the country” rather than a political football.

She warned that without legal pathways for workers to enter and build lives in the U.S., the nation faces a labor shortage. “If we don’t have avenues for people to come here legally to work or to build a home here, I’m going to be really crude right now — we’re not going to have anybody around to wipe our a–es because we don’t have enough people in our country now to fill the jobs that we have,” she said. Balint also called for an “adult conversation in Congress” to address these challenges.

Her remarks, however, have drawn fierce pushback. Vermont Republican Party Chairman Paul Dame condemned Balint’s comments as a “disturbing sentiment.”

In a statement, Dame called for an apology, arguing that Balint’s words suggest immigrants are primarily valued for menial labor. “Congresswoman Balint should apologize — not only for her crude choice of words, but more importantly for the disturbing sentiment that the primary purpose of immigration is to perform labor that she deems beneath the dignity of others,” he said.

He highlighted the diverse roles immigrants play in Vermont, from “remarkable careers in high-tech fields” to serving as “world-class physicians” and vital contributors to the state’s small business community.

“The way Congresswoman Balint reduced Vermont’s hard-working legal immigrants to little more than ‘a– wipers’ is embarrassing,” Dame added, insisting she owes an apology to both immigrants and all Vermonters.

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) seized on the controversy, accusing Balint of advocating for “open borders.” In a post on X, the NRCC wrote:

“While complaining about President Trump deporting illegal immigrants, Vermont Democrat Becca Balint claims: ‘We’re not going to have anyone around to wipe our a–es.’ Democrats’ goal is, was and always will be open borders.” The statement framed Balint’s comments as part of a larger critique of Democratic immigration policies.

Adding to the fray, Mark Coester, Balint’s 2026 Republican opponent for Vermont’s at-large congressional seat, took a sharp jab at the congresswoman. In a post on X, he quipped that “from this day forward,” Balint “will not be remembered only for her incompetence but more for her INCONTINENCE.”

He further remarked, “We all have accidents in life but no Vermont residents ever required illegals to clean up a messy accident,” amplifying the criticism of her choice of words.

Balint’s comments have exposed deep divisions in how immigration is discussed, both in Vermont and nationally. While she aimed to highlight the economic necessity of immigrant labor, her phrasing has been widely criticized as reductive and disrespectful.

As the controversy unfolds, it remains to be seen how Balint will respond to calls for an apology and whether this moment will shape the immigration debate in Vermont’s political landscape.
