The Democrat Party is a mess right now. They can’t seem to work together on anything ever since their defeat in the 2024 elections.
And this leading Leftist Senator breaks ranks from the Democrat Party in a shocking twist.
Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) has become the first Democratic senator to endorse Republican Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) for President-elect Donald Trump’s potential pick as Secretary of State.
Fetterman’s public support signals a rare show of bipartisan cooperation in the Senate, a stance few Democrats have adopted toward the incoming administration.
While many Democratic leaders across the country have openly vowed to oppose Trump’s agenda, Fetterman’s support for Rubio stands out as a gesture that he may be open to collaboration with Trump’s White House.
In a post to X on Tuesday morning, Fetterman acknowledged the ideological gap between himself and Rubio but praised the Florida senator’s qualifications.
“Unsurprisingly, the other team’s pick will have political differences than my own,” Fetterman wrote. “That being said, my colleague @SenMarcoRubio is a strong choice and I look forward to voting for his confirmation.”

Though Trump has not yet officially selected Rubio as his Secretary of State, he has filled several other cabinet positions. If Rubio is confirmed, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) would appoint a temporary replacement for Rubio’s Senate seat until a special election can be held.
The Florida senator’s path to confirmation seems likely, especially with Republicans holding a majority in the chamber and support from Fetterman.
Former Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger, a known Trump critic, has also expressed his support for Rubio’s nomination, further boosting his chances.
Fetterman’s endorsement comes after he previously voiced admiration for Rubio. Following Trump’s choice of Vice President-elect J.D. Vance as his running mate over Rubio, Fetterman commented on his bipartisan respect for the senator during a recent Fox News interview, admitting, “I was actually shocked that Trump didn’t pick him over Vance.”
A former lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania, Fetterman has gained a reputation as an independent voice in the Democratic Party. Since his 2022 Senate victory, he has occasionally diverged from his party on high-profile issues, including foreign policy.
Though he campaigned for Vice President Kamala Harris in her White House bid, he openly criticized her strategy, warning that failing to address Trump’s strong support in Pennsylvania would have consequences—a prediction that materialized when Harris lost both the state and the election.
Following last week’s sweeping losses for Democrats across the Senate, House, and the White House, Fetterman continued to voice frustration with his party’s direction.
He recently argued that Democratic rhetoric had alienated male voters, costing the party a vital demographic.
“We have a challenge,” Fetterman stated in a recent interview with Semafor, referring to the party’s failure to connect with a key voting bloc.
He defended his choice to appear on Joe Rogan’s podcast, noting the program’s strong appeal to a male audience. “People refer to these young guys as bros, and clearly that’s not a positive term,” he said. “They’re described as dopes or gullible or brutes. That violates the basic, basic rule of politics. Don’t subtract, do addition. I think that was part of the new coalition that really delivered a pretty crushing victory for Trump.”
In his support for Rubio, Fetterman may be signaling a new approach to bridging divides within the Senate, setting a precedent for possible bipartisan efforts in the future. That would certainly be welcomed on Capitol Hill where political division is so strong.
