Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell worried everyone when he suddenly froze on camera. What happened after that may surprise you.
Because Mitch McConnell has finally come clean about the private phone call he had with President Biden.
All of Washington, D.C. was in shock when the long-time Republican in the Senate Mitch McConnell (R-KY) outright froze in front of cameras while giving responses to reporters at a press conference.
For someone his age, it definitely gave cause for concern. Especially considering he has been in and out of the hospital this year as well.
McConnell was led away from the podium and into his office in the Senate where he would simply relax for a few minutes before returning to the podium to take questions from the reporters at the scene.
The McConnell team said that he merely “felt lightheaded and stepped away for a moment” and that he was “sharp” in his return answering questions for the media.
Mitch McConnell himself also reiterated that he was doing fine when he was asked by reporters outside of his office, but he also revealed a phone call he had with Joe Biden.
The Senator from Kentucky said that Joe Biden called to check in on him and see how he was doing after the spell of lightheadedness.
His response to Biden calling him was to crack a joke, saying that he got “sandbagged” referring to to when Joe Biden fell while onstage from tripping over a sandbag.
“So, the president called to check on me. I told him I got sandbagged,” McConnell said.
He added, “I’m fine. I’m fine, that’s the important part. Got to watch those sandbags.”
The fact that Joe Biden reached out to McConnell so quickly just goes to show you how much Washington, D.C. was on notice when McConnell froze like that in front of cameras. It was a scary sight, no doubt.
Though, reports are that McConnell has been faring well ever since. His colleagues noted that he gave a speech shortly after leaving the Senate that evening.
“We were just at a dinner where he gave a seven-minute speech,” Senator John Barrasso (R-IA) said to reporters.
He allegedly carried on his duties in the Senate without an issue for business to be conducted at the Senate as they took votes on the NDAA amendment.
McConnell’s Republican colleagues have also come to the defense of Mitch, saying that he’s doing just fine.
“I have no reason to believe he’s not doing well. He’s as sharp as he ever was,” Senator John Cornyn said (R-TX).
Senator Mike Rounds (R-SD) told members of the media that “he’s looking a whole lot better right now.”
While it’s good to hear that Mitch McConnell is doing fine, this episode is why Americans have been screaming from the rooftops about term limits.
It is utterly shocking just how many elected officials in Washington, D.C. are experiencing severe health issues that stem either from age or terrible medical diagnoses.
God be with McConnell and his family, but it’s time for another true conservative Republican to take up the role as U.S. Senator from Kentucky.
