Pelosi Pushes for Transgender Youth Procedures
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made a radical case for protecting “gender-affirming care” for transgender children on Thursday, signaling her intent to advancing this issue nationwide. While visiting the San Francisco VA Medical Center to assess healthcare system improvements, research initiatives, and concerns over potential Republican-led cuts to veterans’ services, Pelosi fielded questions about recent pauses in “gender-affirming care” in California.
“That is something I’m working for at the national level, and we are hoping we can have gender-affirming care for our trans kids,” Pelosi declared.
“It’s a sad thing for us… I don’t know what effect we can have nationally with what we have going on in the White House and in Congress.”

Pelosi’s advocacy comes amid fierce opposition from many Congressional Republicans who rightfully reject the idea that children should undergo transgender procedures.
Yet, she is joined by a coalition of leaders from Democratic-led states, including California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Washington DC, and Wisconsin.
Legal Battle Against Restrictions
Earlier this month, these states filed a lawsuit in the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts to block the Trump administration from prohibiting s*x change treatments for those under 19.
The lawsuit calls out President Donald Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and the Justice Department, challenging a January 28 executive order that stops government support for s*x change procedures.
It also contests two memos: one from Bondi instructing the Justice Department to investigate and prosecute providers offering such care to minors, and another from Assistant Attorney General Brett Shumate, directing prosecutors to prioritize cases against doctors, hospitals, and pharmaceutical companies involved.
The plaintiffs argue these actions threaten providers with “baseless criminal charges” and investigations, aiming to enforce a de facto national ban.
Pelosi’s office confirmed to Fox News Digital that her remarks referred to this legal effort. Meanwhile, the healthcare landscape is shifting rapidly.
Last month, Kaiser Permanente revealed it would pause s*x change surgeries for patients who are under the age of 19. The pause will go into place on August 29.
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles also closed its Center for Trans Youth Health and Development, a major hub for transgender youth care, and Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC, ended its gender transition services.
While numerous states have restricted or banned s*x change surgeries for minors, the states involved in the lawsuit unfortunately continue to allow these procedures
