President Donald Trump announced on Monday his plan to spearhead a nationwide push to eliminate mail-in voting, a system he has repeatedly blasted since the chaos of the COVID-19 era. “I am going to lead a movement to get rid of MAIL-IN BALLOTS, and also, while we’re at it, Highly ‘Inaccurate,’ Very Expensive, and Seriously Controversial VOTING MACHINES, which cost Ten Times more than accurate and sophisticated Watermark Paper, which is faster, and leaves NO DOUBT, at the end of the evening, as to who WON, and who LOST, the Election,” Trump declared in a post on Truth Social.
The former president didn’t stop there, pointing out how mail-in ballots have turned elections into a breeding ground for doubt and manipulation. “We are now the only Country in the World that uses Mail-In Voting. All others gave it up because of the MASSIVE VOTER FRAUD ENCOUNTERED,” he added.
Trump made it clear this isn’t just talk—he’s ready to take action against the forces undermining our democracy. “WE WILL BEGIN THIS EFFORT, WHICH WILL BE STRONGLY OPPOSED BY THE DEMOCRATS BECAUSE THEY CHEAT AT LEVELS NEVER SEEN BEFORE, by signing an EXECUTIVE ORDER to help bring HONESTY to the 2026 Midterm Elections.”

A recent Pew Research Center survey shows that 62% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents insist absentee or mail-in voting should only be allowed with a documented reason, highlighting fears that unrestricted mail ballots open the door to fraud. This stance reflects a growing consensus among conservatives that in-person voting, with its built-in verifications, is far more trustworthy.

A Catawba College and YouGov poll in North Carolina found only 57% of residents confident that absentee-by-mail voting is secure, while 17% expressed no confidence at all. This leaves a substantial 43% harboring doubts, mirroring national anxieties.
On a nationwide scale, an AP/NORC survey revealed just 44% of Americans have high confidence that votes will be counted accurately in elections, a stark indicator that faith in systems like mail-in voting remains fragile.
Trump’s initiative comes at a pivotal moment, as the 2026 midterms loom and Democrats scramble to defend the very mechanisms that critics say hand them unfair advantages.
