Democrats are literally sobbing over Trump’s election victory. They can’t fathom the idea of him being their next president again.
And these radical Leftist hosts just suffered a humiliating defeat live on air.
In the wake of President-elect Donald Trump’s victory over Vice President Kamala Harris, America’s liberal late-night hosts put their reactions on display Wednesday night. Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, Stephen Colbert, and Jimmy Fallon greeted their audiences with rehearsed, rueful humor, each delivering their own take on an election outcome they clearly found distressing.
Jimmy Kimmel opened with a line that set the tone for the night: “I spent a lot of time over the past 17 hours thinking about what I would say tonight, or even if there is anything to say tonight, and there’s nothing, goodnight everybody,” he said, attempting to walk off stage. But the 56-year-old host returned, calling election night “the worst taco Tuesday of my whole life,” while claiming he was still trying to process what had happened.
For those “hate-watching” to see his reaction, Kimmel provided a somber confirmation of their expectations: “There was no joy in Mudville last night.” His tone shifted to emotional as he described it as a “terrible night” for many, especially for women, children, and immigrants.
“It was a terrible night for everyone who voted against him, and guess what, it was a bad night for everyone who voted for him too, you just don’t realize it yet,” he added, his voice breaking at times.

Kimmel’s reaction turned pointed as he suggested Trump’s win was a victory for Russian President Vladimir Putin, polio, people in Silicon Valley and the “wriggling brain worms who sold their souls to bow down to Donald Trump.” Despite his dismay, he tried to keep a balanced perspective, though not without a hint of resignation: “I’ve been trying to come up with something positive… the best I can come up with is we’ve been through this once before, and yes this time it’s probably gonna be worse, maybe a lot worse.”
NBC’s Seth Meyers was quick to confirm his own vote for Harris, though with a dose of sarcasm: “Nobody knew which candidate I was supporting in the weeks before the election.” The 50-year-old “SNL” alum compared the night’s anticipation to Christmas Eve, humorously lamenting that Santa may have left something other than presents under the tree. Either he left you presents, or “just took a huge dump in your fireplace,” he said.
Meyers didn’t hold back his personal feelings toward Trump, bluntly saying, “I don’t think Donald Trump’s a good person. I will even go as far as saying he’s a bad person.” He mused over the fact that half the country either thinks differently or simply doesn’t care.
Meyers wrapped up with a segment introduction for “A Closer Look,” diving into election analysis with a sarcastic jab at Trump’s future prospects: “Well, Donald Trump has won the 2024 election and will be president again for four more years, or eight or 12 or whatever,” he said, laughing in a maniacal tone.
With a mock-serious tone, he concluded, “We live in an infinite time-warp where Donald Trump has always been and will always be the center of the universe.”
Stephen Colbert took a somber approach on CBS’s “Late Show,” opening with an empathetic nod to his audience. “Hey there, how are you doing?” he asked, addressing viewers directly. “If you watch this show regularly, I’m guessing you’re not doing great. Yeah, me neither.” Colbert shared an anecdote about someone who apologized to him for having to do a show the day after the election, only for Colbert to brush it off, saying, he “gets to do a show today.”
Colbert’s segment transitioned into a compilation of election night broadcasts, with each host mocking reactions to Trump’s victory from around the globe.
Colbert, also despondent:

NBC’s Jimmy Fallon leaned into his signature one-liners and exaggerated laughs. “Well guys, last night America decided to get back with a crazy ex and elect Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States,” he quipped, before adding, “No matter who you voted for, I think we can all agree that it’s going to be a rough Thanksgiving.”
Fallon continued with a joke about Democrats supposedly asking Elon Musk, “So tell me more about living on Mars, how close are we?”
Fallon’s light-hearted take was a stark contrast to the deeper sentiments expressed by his counterparts. His opening was peppered with zingers, like his closing remark that the election was “a big night for both Donald Trump and Don Julio.”
Each of these late-night hosts tackled Trump’s victory in their own comedic style, but they all shared the commonality of having Trump Derangement Syndrome.
