Congress has been a wild ride since the removal of Kevin McCarthy from the speakership. But now it’s about to get even crazier.
And RINO Republicans unveil a new plan for the House Speaker vacancy that will leave you shellshocked.
Last week, chaos hit Washington, D.C. after Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL) brought forth a motion that ousted Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as Speaker of the House.
Patrick McHenry (R-NC) is currently the Speaker Pro Tempore, while U.S. Representatives, Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Steve Scalise (R-LA) are campaigning to fill the position permanently.
But after the events this past weekend in the Middle East that saw Hamas, a Palestinian terrorist group, attack Israel, moderate Republicans are considering a plan for the speaker’s vacancy that doesn’t involve Jordan or Scalise.
In text messages and phone calls to and from Republican congress members, Politico reports that their goal is to bring back Kevin McCarthy as House Speaker.
“We need to bring back Kevin, immediately,” one of the messages said.
“Israel attacks have moderates holding out for the one person who can truly unite us: Kevin McCarthy,” another Republican legislator said.
These centrist GOP members of the House are worried that finding and electing a new speaker will take too much time as the foreign crisis in the Middle East rages on.
In January, McCarthy was finally elected after 15 rounds of voting. Some House Republicans are worried that will happen again and therefore think it’s quicker and better for the country if McCarthy is simply reinstated.
However, the opposite of quick would likely occur. Jim Jordan and Steve Scalise have already received numerous endorsements, including Jordan being endorsed by former President Donald Trump.
Reinstating Kevin McCarthy would only cause more turmoil and division within Congress.
According to a Republican congress member, the recently ousted Speaker is “aware and grateful” for the support to bring him back to the speakership’s role, but he’s currently distancing himself from the conversation.
McCarthy does understand how important it is to quickly find a new Speaker of the House, especially with the events transpiring between Israel and Hamas.
When speaking on that subject, Rep. McCarthy recently told Fox News that, “There is nothing the House can do until they elect a speaker, and I don’t know if that happens quickly.”
“A short window is all we need in the House to reinstate Kevin McCarthy and change the rule,” said Congressman John Duarte (R-CA).
The proposed motion is likely a pipe dream for Republican centrists.
It’s almost as far-fetched as efforts to help Donald Trump win the gavel, despite him already giving his support to Jim Jordan.
Republicans in Congress can agree on one thing, and that’s how important it is to find a permanent speaker as soon as possible.
