The president seems to always be away from Pennsylvania Ave. But this round of traveling will come at a cost.
Because Biden’s planned trip away from the White House has these U.S. citizens red with rage.
Almost a year ago in the town of East Palestine, Ohio, disaster struck after a train derailed and spilled toxic chemicals.
The town has a population of about 5,000 people who saw the effects of the Norfolk Southern train’s derailment.
Many of those 5,000 had to evacuate their homes because of the toxic chemicals that were burning and releasing fumes that made it’s way into the water, ground, and air.
Norfolk Southern faced heavy criticism for the derailment, and were also sued by East Palestine citizens, the state of Ohio, and the federal government.
President Joe Biden and his administration were met with major controversy for not visiting the town after the incident occurred or in the months since.
But now, the White House has made plans for the president to finally step foot in East Palestine, although it’s probably too little too late.
“In February, President Biden will travel to East Palestine, Ohio, to meet with residents impacted by the Norfolk Southern train derailment and assess the progress that his Administration has helped deliver in coordination with state and local leaders to protect the community and hold Norfolk Southern accountable,” The New York Post reports an official of the Biden administration saying.
Former President Donald Trump was able to visit the area last year while Biden sat at home. Trump even bought food from McDonald’s for some of the town’s residents.
Predictably, some of the citizens aren’t too thrilled with Biden’s late appearance.
East Palestine Mayor Trent Conaway spoke with Fox News and said that in “my personal opinion the best time for him to come would be February of 2025 when he is on his book tour.”
“The President is always welcome to our town. That being said, I don’t know what he would do here now.”
A business owner in town, DJ Yokley, told “Fox & Friends” that President Biden is only coming just to “check it off the books.”
“The American people have awakened to realize that the leader of our country did not show up to the greatest catastrophe of 2023, And now he’s going to show up because it is an election year,” Yokley said.
“President Trump came and supported us when he didn’t have to … Now it’s ‘Hey we have to go visit East Palestine because we haven’t done that yet – and check it off the books.'”
Trump caught wind of Biden’s travel plans and didn’t hesitate to bash him.
“With the World blowing up around us, with the Middle East on FIRE, Biden has finally decided to visit East Palestine, Ohio, a year late, and only to develop some political credibility because EVERYTHING else he has done has been such a DISASTER,” Trump said in his post on Truth Social.
“I know those great people, I was there when it counted, and his reception won’t be a warm one. Worst President in History!”
