Ever since the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump has had his eye on a return to the Oval Office.
With President Biden at the helm, Americans are suffering and it looks like it would be a cakewalk for any competent Republican in 2024.
Seeing this, Trump has said he will make an announcement shortly after the midterms on whether he will run or not.
But not everyone is happy about that. Some are saying it’s time for Trump to pass the torch.
And one megadonor to Republicans just came out against another run by Donald Trump.
In comments published in Politico on Sunday, billionaire Ken Griffin said that “it’s time to move on” from Donald Trump.
Griffin, the founder, and CEO of Miami-based hedge fund Citadel LLC stated that “for a litany of reasons, I think it’s time to move on to the next generation” and that Republican voters should not re-nominate Trump for president in 2024.
In comments to Politico, he noted that while “he did a lot of things really well,” he “missed the mark on some important areas” and was “pointlessly divisive.”
Griffin, who has a net worth of $31.2 billion according to Forbes, is a big supporter and fundraiser to Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.
He has contributed $5 million to his reelection campaign as governor in 2022, making him the top donor.
Griffin said of DeSantis that he has a “tremendous record” and that his leadership will “well-serve” the country, according to Politico.
“Would I support him? The bigger question is, is he going to run? “That bridge has to be crossed,” he said when asked if he would support DeSantis.
Regardless of whether DeSantis runs, Griffin has stated that if Trump decides to run in 2024, he will not support him.
In reference to a prospective presidential campaign, Trump, 76, said at a recent rally in Pennsylvania, “Everybody, I promise you, you’re going to be happy in the very next — very, very, very short period of time.”
According to Newsmax, Trump is set to announce his candidacy for president on November 14, over two years before the election.
And with DeSantis only being 44 years old, he very well may just bide his time until Donald Trump is out of the scene.
But only time will tell what these two massively popular Republicans will do.
