Gov. Gretchen Whitmer

The 2024 election has been full of surprises. There’s no telling what’s going to happen next.

As this Democrat Governor makes a 2024 presidential race announcement that left voters utterly stunned.

President Joe Biden has officially dropped out of the 2024 presidential election.

Now the Democrats must officially nominate a new candidate to take his place. That new candidate will likely be Vice President Kamala Harris.

Though it’s still unclear who she’ll end up picking to be her running mate.

However, several Leftist governors have been named as likely candidates, including Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI).

But Whitmer just made her final decision on whether or not she’ll join forces with Harris as her VP.

Gov. Whitmer Declines VP Role, Endorses Harris for President

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has made it clear that she will not join the Democratic ticket as Vice President alongside Kamala Harris, though she fully supports Harris’s presidential bid.

On Monday, Whitmer endorsed Harris, following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential race and his endorsement of Harris as his successor.

Speaking to WLNS, Whitmer firmly stated, “I am not going anywhere,” when questioned about the possibility of being the Democratic vice presidential nominee.

“I am not leaving Michigan. I am proud to be the governor of Michigan, I’ve been consistent. I know everyone is always suspicious and asking this question over and over again,” Whitmer emphasized.

Regarding her timing in endorsing Harris, Whitmer explained that she wanted to allow some time for the political landscape to stabilize after Biden’s unexpected exit from the campaign.

“I think everyone was surprised by the news yesterday, even though there was a lot of conversations about it and that means co-chair included. So I wanted a minute to check in with all my colleagues and let the dust settle and I’m proud to be supporting the vice president for president,” Whitmer said.

Whitmer, a prominent figure in the Democratic Party and a potential future presidential contender, expressed her enthusiasm for Harris’s candidacy in a statement released Monday.

She announced her role as a co-chair for Harris’s campaign, having previously co-chaired Biden’s reelection campaign before his withdrawal.

With endorsements from Whitmer, Biden, and other influential Democrats, Harris seems poised to secure the Democratic nomination.

While Harris has yet to announce her running mate, names like Govs. Andy Beshear (D-KY) and Roy Cooper (D-NC) have been suggested as possible candidates.

This significant shift in the Democratic presidential ticket follows rising concerns about Biden’s age and mental sharpness, especially after his recent debate with former President Donald Trump.

Meanwhile, Trump has solidified his own ticket by selecting Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) as his running mate.
