And Biden was caught bragging about one of his worst failures in latest puzzling move.

In his final address to the United Nations as president, Joe Biden oddly decided to staunchly defend his decision to withdraw U.S. forces from Afghanistan.

Speaking to the General Assembly amidst multiple international crises, Biden highlighted his administration’s record on global relations, emphasizing the significance of the Afghanistan withdrawal.

“When I came to office as president, Afghanistan had replaced Vietnam as America’s longest war,” Biden stated, according to National Review.

“I was determined to end it, and I did. It was a hard decision but the right decision.” This sentiment reflected his long-standing view on the necessity of ending U.S. military involvement in the region.

The withdrawal in 2021 led to a swift takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban, who filled the power vacuum as U.S. troops exited the country. The withdrawal was marked by tragedy when a terrorist attack at the Hamid Karzai International Airport claimed the lives of 13 U.S. service members.

“It was a decision accompanied by tragedy,” Biden acknowledged. “13 brave Americans lost their lives along with hundreds of Afghans in a suicide bomb. I think about those lost lives every day.”

Criticism followed Biden closely after that incident. One particularly controversial moment occurred during the Dignified Transfer ceremony for the fallen soldiers, when Biden was photographed checking his watch, a gesture that drew widespread backlash.

Critics accused the president of appearing insensitive at a solemn moment, further intensifying the scrutiny surrounding the chaotic withdrawal.

In addition to the human toll, the withdrawal left billions of dollars’ worth of U.S. military equipment behind, much of which ended up in the hands of the Taliban. Some of this equipment has reportedly surfaced in other global conflicts.

Shifting to other international concerns, Biden called for diplomacy amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Addressing the conflict between Israel and Hamas, and the growing threat from Hezbollah in Lebanon, Biden urged restraint: “Full-scale war is not in anyone’s interest,” he remarked, as reported by Politico. “Diplomatic solution is still possible. It’s the only path.”

On the war in Ukraine, Biden reaffirmed the U.S.’s commitment to supporting Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression.

“The good news is that Putin’s war has failed in its core aim. But we cannot let up,” Biden warned. “The world has another choice to make: Will we sustain or support? Or walk away and let a nation be destroyed. We can not grow weary. We can not look away.”

In this final address to the U.N., Biden sought to solidify his legacy on the global stage, but instead made himself look foolish by boasting about the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan that resulted in the deaths of U.S. soldiers.
