And a former Democrat presidential candidate has sided with the GOP in a stunning betrayal.
Former Democratic presidential candidate and Congresswoman from Hawaii, Tulsi Gabbard, has officially transitioned to the Republican Party, after aligning herself with Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.
“The Democrat Party has no home for people like us, but we do have a home in the Republican Party — where we are welcomed with open arms by President Trump and so many of you who love our country,” Gabbard announced during a Trump rally in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Her declaration follows her decision to become an Independent in 2022.
She further explained her reasons for the switch, attributing it to Trump’s leadership in reshaping the Republican Party.
“And it is because of my love for our country and specifically because of the leadership that President Trump has brought to transform the Republican Party and bring it back to the party of the people, and the party of peace, that I’m proud to stand here with you today, with President Trump, and announce that I’m joining the Republican Party,” said the 43-year-old.
Having spent over 20 years as a Democrat, Gabbard voiced her disillusionment with the direction of the party, which she believes no longer reflects her values.
“Today’s Democrat Party is completely unrecognizable, which points to the clear choice that we have in this Election Day,” she remarked.
Gabbard is currently a member of Trump’s transition team and has become a vocal critic of the Democratic establishment.
During her speech, Gabbard didn’t hold back in her criticism of figures like Vice President Kamala Harris, accusing her of being “anti-freedom” and aligning herself with censorship, open borders, and war.
She also took aim at prominent Republicans-turned-Democratic allies, like former Vice President Dick Cheney and his daughter Liz Cheney, accusing them of supporting Harris and placing power over the American people’s interests.
“President Trump has pledged to end wars, not start them,” Gabbard emphasized, contrasting this with the Democratic Party’s approach, which she claims is focused on maintaining power at any cost.
She also accused the Democrats of weaponizing the federal government to silence Trump, praising his courage in battling the political establishment.
Trump, taken aback by Gabbard’s public announcement, expressed his gratitude: “Wow, that was a surprise,” he said, calling it a “great honor” to have inspired her to join the GOP.
Sources suggested to the New York Post that Gabbard may be eyeing a position within Trump’s administration should he win another term.
Though no specific role has been discussed, her experience in foreign policy could potentially position her for a significant post.
