Trump Reveals Biden’s Finger-Pointing After 2024 Election Shake-Up
In a candid sit-down with The Spectator’s Ben Domenech on Thursday afternoon at the White House, President Donald Trump peeled back the curtain on a revealing conversation with his predecessor, Joe Biden. Reflecting on the dramatic twists of the 2024 election cycle, Trump shared that Biden pinned his political downfall on two familiar figures: “Barack” and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
“I went to the White House a few months before this all happened. … But I went there and he asked for a meeting, and I went and we talked for a little while, and at first I couldn’t… You couldn’t… He talked so low,” Trump recounted, painting a picture of a hushed exchange with the 46th president.
The meeting, which followed Trump’s electoral triumph over Kamala Harris in November 2024, took an unexpected turn when Biden’s frustration bubbled to the surface.
Domenech had probed Trump about Biden’s surprisingly warm demeanor post-election, prompting Trump to dig into their discussion. “I asked him, I said, ‘So who do you blame?’ Because he was very angry, you know, he was a very angry guy, actually,” Trump stated.
“And he said, ‘I blame Barack.’ And I never think of him as ‘Barack.’ You know, you always hear ‘Obama.’ You say, you have to think about that for a second. And he said, ‘and I also blame Nancy Pelosi.’”
Strikingly, Biden didn’t point the finger at Harris, his vice president and eventual successor in the race. “I said, ‘What about the vice president?’ He said, ‘No, I don’t blame her,’ which was interesting,” Trump noted. “He didn’t blame her. He blamed … he told me he blamed those two people.”
The 2024 election year had started with Biden firmly at the helm of the Democratic Party, gearing up for a rematch with Trump. But the wheels began to wobble in February when questions about his age—81—and mental sharpness took center stage.
Conservatives had long jabbed at Biden’s mental fitness, and those whispers grew louder after Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report on Biden’s handling of classified documents.
While Hur declined to press charges, he described Biden as “a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory,” reigniting public debate over his capacity to lead.
The tipping point came in June 2024 during Biden’s lone debate with Trump. Leading up to the showdown, Biden stumbled through a string of awkward moments: Barack Obama guiding him offstage at a glitzy fundraiser, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni nudging him back to world leaders at the G-7 summit after he wandered off to salute a parachutist.
When debate night rolled around, Biden faltered badly—tripping over answers, losing his thread, and leaving viewers stunned. The fallout was swift and brutal, with conservatives and even longtime Democratic allies urging him to step aside for a fresher face.
On July 21, 2024, Biden bowed to the pressure, announcing via a post that he was stepping out of the race. In a follow-up, he threw his support behind Harris to carry the torch. But the cracks in his inner circle were already showing.
Pelosi, a decades-long ally, admitted on MSNBC in February 2025 that she hadn’t spoken to Biden or Jill Biden in months, though she hoped to mend their strained bond. Meanwhile, whispers swirled that Obama had quietly pushed for Biden’s exit, with some Democrats blaming him for the party’s 2024 unraveling.
Obama’s fingerprints were all over the summer push to oust Biden. Allies like David Axelrod, who bluntly said Biden was “not winning this race,” George Clooney, who dropped a bombshell op-ed urging Biden to quit, and Jon Favreau, Obama’s former speechwriting maestro, all joined the chorus calling for Biden to step down.
By the time Biden relented, the Democratic Party was in disarray—and Biden, according to Trump, was left stewing, laying the blame squarely at Obama’s and Pelosi’s feet.
