While details of the executive action remain unclear, it could apply to K-12 athletics, collegiate competition, or a broader prohibition on biological males competing in female categories.
Trump has made this issue a key part of his platform, frequently promising to prevent men who identify as women from taking part in women’s sports. He has pointed to cases like that of Riley Gaines, a female swimmer who was forced to compete against a man who identified as a female swimmer.
Last year, Trump’s presidential campaign tapped into growing concerns among parents nationwide. Many saw their daughters’ opportunities being erased and their private spaces invaded, all in the name of gender ideology. “The sickos who are pushing s*xual content in kindergartens, or providing puberty blockers to young children who have no idea what a puberty blocker is,” Trump remarked in 2022, drawing laughter from the audience. “Neither do I, by the way. Neither do most of the people in the audience, as you smile.”
