Things have not been pretty in the U.S. House lately. There’s constant chaos at every corner.
And Congress is in hysterics after top Democrat receives sobering news.
There’s never a short of surprises in Washington, D.C.
That was evident this week after disgraced U.S. Rep. George Santos (R-NY) announced his latest plan to take down Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY).
Santos is set to be expelled from Congress after the House Ethics Committee produced a report that showed how he spent campaign donations for personal gain.
The New York Republican believes he’s being treated unfairly through this expulsion process and has no plans to resign before then.
But before he is officially ousted from the lower chamber of Congress, he is set to file a resolution that calls for the expulsion of Bowman for pulling a fire alarm in a House office building.
Bowman pulled the alarm when there was no danger present and the incident occurred while Democrats were in the process of delaying a vote.
The Democrat congressman claimed that it was an accident, but after security footage was released, many believed he did it on purpose to help the Democrats further delay.
Bowman eventually pled guilty to falsely pulling the fire alarm once evidence from the footage was produced.
And despite the guilty plea, he continues to argue that his actions were done with no illegal intent or with the purpose of trying to stop a vote.
Santos justifies his expulsion resolution of Rep. Bowman because he believes that since Bowman pled guilty to a criminal offense, that is firm grounds to be kicked out of Congress. Meanwhile, Santos himself was never convicted but is still set to be expelled.
“If the House wants to start different precedents and expel me, that is going to be the undoing of a lot of members of this body, because this will haunt them in the future where mere allegations are sufficient to have members removed from office when duly elected by their people in their respective states and districts,” Santos explained.
The expulsion resolution doesn’t seem to phase Bowman, as he released a statement on Thursday to denounce the expulsion attempt by Santos.
“No one in Congress, or anywhere in America, takes soon-to-be former Congressman George Santos seriously,” Bowman’s statement read.
“This is just another meaningless stunt in his long history of cons, antics, and outright fraud.”
Rep. Santos brings up a solid argument as to why Bowman should lose his seat in the House.
However, it’s unlikely he will gain a lot of support since he’s facing expulsion of his own.
And many Democrats and Republicans have no interest to offer any support or alliance to the shamed Republican congressman.
