Top Leftists are often intimidated by Trump. This politician in particular is no exception.

And a Democrat governor has a heart attack after what Donald Trump just accused him of.

President-elect Donald Trump has placed the blame for California’s devastating wildfires squarely on the shoulders of Governor Gavin Newsom, accusing the Democratic leader of prioritizing environmental protections over human lives. Trump criticized Newsom’s handling of water resources, claiming the governor’s decision to protect an extinct fish species contributed to the “apocalyptic” wildfires ravaging the Pacific Palisades in Los Angeles.

Trump, speaking on his Truth Social platform, alleged that Newsom had blocked measures to redirect water from California’s wetter northern regions to the drought-stricken south, exacerbating conditions for the wildfires.

“He wanted to protect an essentially worthless fish called a smelt… but didn’t care about the people of California,” Trump posted. “Now the ultimate price is being paid. I will demand that this incompetent governor allow beautiful, clean, fresh water to FLOW INTO CALIFORNIA! He is to blame for this.”

The delta smelt, a small fish native to the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, has long been at the center of water policy debates in California. Environmentalists argue that the smelt is a key part of the state’s ecosystem, despite being considered functionally extinct. Trump, however, has dismissed these concerns, framing the fish as an unnecessary barrier to providing water to farmers and communities in need.

During his first presidential campaign in 2016, Trump promised to redirect California’s northern water supplies southward to benefit farmers struggling with repeated droughts. According to reports from the Courthouse News Service, he followed through in 2020, issuing a federal memorandum to reallocate millions of gallons of water he claimed were being “needlessly flushed” into the ocean.

However, Newsom’s administration quickly moved to block the policy in court, limiting the amount of water that could be diverted from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. Since then, the two leaders have repeatedly clashed over the state’s water management policies, which are subject to both state and federal regulations.

Trump has continued to push for his water diversion plans, even threatening to cut off federal wildfire aid to California unless Newsom reversed course. “If we don’t give him money to put out his fires, he’s got problems,” Trump said in September, according to The Hill.

Rather than yield, Newsom partnered with President Biden to create a water regulation plan that aimed to balance southern California’s needs with environmental protections for the smelt.

Though Trump suggested Los Angeles’ fires were linked to water shortages, experts point out that the area’s drought conditions are less severe than in previous years. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, Los Angeles is experiencing only a “moderate drought,” the lowest ranking on the scale.

The wildfires, however, have taken a tragic toll. At least two people have died, and more than 70,000 residents have been forced to evacuate as flames engulf homes and neighborhoods. The Palisades Fire remains completely uncontained, while the Eaton Fire in northern Los Angeles has exploded from 2,000 acres to over 10,000 in just a few hours on Wednesday.

Democrats’ Failures to Address Core Issues

The ongoing clash between Trump and Newsom highlights a broader pattern within the Democratic Party: a tendency to focus on woke or niche issues at the expense of addressing the practical concerns of everyday Americans.

While the preservation of the delta smelt may be an environmental priority for some, many Americans see it as emblematic of a government that appears disconnected from their immediate struggles.

Instead of tackling critical issues like wildfire prevention, water infrastructure, or housing affordability, Democrats often prioritize causes that resonate with specific advocacy groups but fail to resonate with the broader population. As wildfires rage, forcing thousands to flee their homes, there are likely Californians who are left wondering why more hasn’t been done to ensure their safety and secure vital resources.

This isn’t limited to California. Across the nation, Democrats frequently champion policies aimed at climate change, diversity initiatives, or woke gestures, but they often fall short when it comes to actionable solutions that directly impact voters’ day-to-day lives. Infrastructure remains crumbling, crime rates are rising in many urban centers, and the economy continues to be poor—issues that demand urgent attention but are frequently overshadowed by less pressing debates.

If Democrats wish to maintain the trust of the American people, they must recalibrate their priorities. Addressing bread-and-butter issues like public safety, water security, and disaster preparedness is crucial. While woke battles might win headlines, it’s the tangible results that voters will remember when they step into the voting booth.
