Democrats fear the worst over this Supreme Court justice’s physical condition

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor

The Left is hoping they can regain a majority in the nation’s high Court. But those hopes may be squashed after this news broke.

And Democrats fear the worst over this Supreme Court justice’s physical condition.

The United States Supreme Court has been the subject of much debate over the years.

Democrats lost their minds when the Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June of 2022.

They started to call for efforts to pack the Court full of Leftist justices so that they could push their radical ideas into law with ease.

But Roe v. Wade would have never been overturned if former President Donald Trump wasn’t able to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg after her death in September of 2020.

Trump was able to nominate Amy Coney Barrett to the bench shortly after Ginsburg’s death, and she took on her role of Supreme Court Justice in late October of 2020. Trump only served a few more months as president after her appointment, leaving Democrats furious that he was able to get one more conservative justice in the Court before he left office in January of 2021.

In hindsight, some Democrats felt as though Ginsburg should have retired during former President Barack Obama’s second term in office so that he could replace her with another Leftist justice. Ginsburg was 87 years old at the time of her death.

And now Leftists in the Senate are starting to worry that the same unfortunate scenario could occur to liberal Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

Sotomayor is 69 years old and is diabetic, leaving Democrats to believe that it may be wise for her to retire while President Joe Biden is still in office, according to an NBC News report.

“I’m very respectful of Justice Sotomayor. I have great admiration for her. But I think she really has to weigh the competing factors,” Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) said to NBC News.

“We should learn a lesson. And it’s not like there’s any mystery here about what the lesson should be. The old saying – graveyards are full of indispensable people, ourselves in this body included.”

Blumenthal then praised Sotomayor, saying that she is “a highly accomplished and, obviously, fully functioning justice right now,” but he added that “justices have to make their personal decisions about their health, and their level of energy, but also to keep in mind the larger national and public interest in making sure that the court looks and thinks like America.”

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) is “not joining any calls” for Justice Sotomayor to resign, but he is worried of an “extremist wing” in the Court being formed if conservatives are able to expand their majority.

Currently, Donald Trump leads Biden in multiple national polls. If Sotomayor has to step down during a second Trump term due to health reasons, or Heaven-forbid she passes away, Trump would be able to nominate yet another conservative justice to take her place.

That’s the fear that Democrats are living with currently in regards to the Supreme Court.

“Run it to 7-2 and you go from a captured court to a full MAGA court,” Whitehouse continued.

“Certainly I think if Justice Ginsburg had it to do over again, she might have rethought her confidence in her own health.”

So, will Sonia Sotomayor resign sometime soon before the presidential election?

Or will she take her chances and continue to serve on the bench no matter what happens in November?

Only time will tell.
