The former president keeps raking in supporters. He’s building up momentum at the right time.
And Donald Trump gains a surprising ally that leaves Democrats fuming.
Former President Donald Trump is the current frontrunner in the race for the Republican nomination for president in 2024.
He’s even looking solid in polls that show a potential rematch between him and President Joe Biden in the general election.
And now he’s building on his strong campaign by adding the support of Univision, a Spanish-language network. This comes at a time when Hispanic voters are starting to turn their backs on Democrats and vote Republican.
Originally Trump and Univision did not get along.
In 2020, his campaign referred to the network as “a leftist propaganda machine and a mouthpiece of the Democrat Party.”
But according to The Washington Post, several years after those comments were made, Trump participated in an interview with three executives from Univision at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.
The interview started off with a question about how Trump was doing so well with Hispanic voters in the polls.
“All you have to do is look at the owners of Univision. They’re unbelievable entrepreneurial people, and they like me,” was the former president’s response to the question.
As a response to the interview, Univision cancelled advertisements from the Biden campaign that were set to run in swing states like Arizona and Pennsylvania. Policy reasons were stated as the grounds for cancellation of the advertisements.
The network also canceled an interview with Maca Casado, Joe Biden’s Hispanic Media Director, who was interested in responding to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago interview with Univision.
“Not since 2004, when former president George W. Bush outperformed expectations among Latino voters, has the Spanish-speaking population been so up for grabs in a presidential contest, according to early polling,” reports The Washington Post.
“Democrats now fear they are losing their access to a network that has been instrumental in past elections in aggressively reporting on Trump’s immigration policies and their effect on Latino viewers.”
Back in October, a speech from President Biden was shut off by Univision and viewers were then given an online link where they could watch the remainder of the speech.
“The new ownership is essentially co-opting and kidnapping the soul and mission of what Univision has been up to now, and they are serving it up on a silver platter to Donald Trump,” Democratic National Committee political consultant, Maria Cardona said of Univision.
“It is going to mask the pernicious and dangerous politics that Donald Trump is going to implement if he becomes president again.”
Democrats can’t handle the fact that Hispanic voters are starting to switch from Biden to Trump.
So instead they blame Univision for displaying how Hispanics really feel about the horrid policies of the Biden administration.
