The presidential election is less than a week away. But key endorsements are still up for grabs.

And Donald Trump just received a huge endorsement that no one was expecting.

In a bold endorsement, Puerto Rico’s shadow senator Zoraida Buxo threw her support behind former President Donald Trump, just days after comic Tony Hinchcliffe stirred controversy with remarks about Puerto Rico at Trump’s New York City rally.

Buxo, a Republican, spoke from Allentown, Pennsylvania, emphasizing her connection to the area, which has a significant Puerto Rican population and is a focal point in the swing-state’s political landscape.

As a shadow senator, Buxo represents Puerto Rico’s interests in advocating for statehood, though she doesn’t hold a voting seat in the U.S. Senate.

Reflecting on Allentown’s cultural shift, Mayor Matt Tuerk noted in an interview that the city is now Latino-majority, making it one of the largest Latino communities in Pennsylvania, with Puerto Ricans comprising about a quarter of Allentown’s 126,000 residents.

Buxo, in her speech, echoed that pride, recalling Puerto Rico’s “steadfast conservative values of community, family, faith, and deep love of country.”

Alluding to the recent controversy sparked by Hinchcliffe’s remarks at the Trump event—without naming him—Buxo assured the crowd, “We won’t get rattled, we won’t yield to ignorance [or] foolishness… we will remain focused on what is very important.”

Her message called for unity and resilience, resonating with her audience as she shifted focus to broader political issues.

Buxo also took aim at the Biden-Harris administration, highlighting border security, law enforcement, and economic challenges, while emphasizing the role of Puerto Ricans and Hispanics nationwide: “We Hispanics are part of the soul of this country. We have made a difference, and we will again make a difference in this coming election to bring about much-needed change,” she said.

As she wrapped up her speech, Buxo urged Pennsylvanians to vote with purpose: “We need the leadership of Donald J. Trump as our Commander-in-Chief and Dave McCormick for a renewed leadership in the United States Senate.”

Her message to Latinos, delivered partly in Spanish, implored, Dale a Trump la fuersa de ta voto (“Give Trump the force of your vote”).

Outside the rally, a billboard reportedly displayed a headline from the Washington Post referencing inflammatory comments made at Trump’s Madison Square Garden event, which sparked debate across social media.

In contrast, Roberto Albino, who opened the rally with a prayer, praised Trump, calling himself “a proud Puerto Rican.”

With an emphasis on strength, pride, and a call for change, Buxo’s endorsement added a powerful voice to the growing Latino support for Trump.

This same support is something that is worrying the Left as Election Day creeps closer and closer.

If Donald Trump is able to continue to make gains among Latino voters, then he’s in a very good position to win the 2024 presidential election.
