Democrats are still enduring losses. They can’t seem to escape defeat right now.

And the GOP delivered Democrats a death blow in Congress that they may never recover from.

House Rejects Effort to Release Ethics Report on Former Rep. Matt Gaetz

The House of Representatives on Thursday evening declined a Democratic push to publicly release an ethics report on former Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., marking a significant defeat for those seeking transparency in the controversial case.

Rep. Sean Casten, D-Ill., spearheaded the effort by introducing a “privileged resolution,” a procedural tool that compels House leadership to address a matter within two legislative days.

Despite this, the resolution was effectively blocked before reaching a final vote, with lawmakers voting 206 to 198 to refer it to the relevant committee.

The referral effectively shelved Casten’s measure, as the Republican-controlled committee is unlikely to take it up. Among House Republicans, only Rep. Tom McClintock, R-Calif., sided with Democrats in supporting the resolution.

Gaetz resigned from Congress last month, before failing in his bid to become President-elect Donald Trump’s attorney general.

His departure also coincided with the House Ethics Committee’s pending consideration of its report into allegations against him. The committee had been investigating Gaetz for years over accusations involving s*x with a minor and illicit drug use.

Matt Gaetz has denied the allegations but his resignation from Congress right after being tapped as Trump’s attorney general, led to speculation that he knew the ethics report would provide damning evidence against him.

However, Gaetz’s resignation ended the committee’s jurisdiction, leaving Republicans reluctant to break precedent by releasing the report.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., reiterated his opposition to making the report public, stating, “I do not believe that that is an appropriate thing. It doesn’t follow our rules and traditions, and there is a reason for that. That would open up Pandora’s box, and I don’t think that’s a healthy thing for the institution.”

Since Gaetz’s resignation, the House Ethics Committee has met twice to discuss the report but has failed to reach a decision on whether to release it. In fact, they had a meeting on this matter just hours before Thursday’s vote.

As mentioned before, Gaetz has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing. A separate federal investigation into the allegations against him concluded without charges.

As for the attorney general position, Donald Trump has selected Pam Bondi to be the nominee. Bondi was the former attorney general of Florida, and many Leftists are not happy with the pick.

They aren’t happy because they know that Bondi is a competent and capable attorney general who will be able to help Trump accomplish his agenda. Just look at how MSNBC reacted to the Pam Bondi pick:
