Biden wants Donald Trump to fail. And he’s already finding ways to make this happen.
As Joe Biden is pushing a new plan to sabotage Trump’s presidency before he’s even sworn in.
The Biden administration is quietly pushing through policies to relax restrictions on migrants who entered the U.S. illegally, aiming to counteract the incoming Trump administration’s planned immigration crackdowns and deportations, according to what sources told the New York Post.
New York City will serve as the epicenter for these last-minute changes, starting with the rollout of an ICE Portal app in early December. The app will allow migrants to check in with ICE virtually rather than in person at local offices.
However, Homeland Security insiders expressed concern to the New York Post about the app’s reliability. Unlike the current in-person system, the app won’t flag past arrests or outstanding warrants, according to officials familiar with the program. Sources also said that the app glitches as well, which makes it easier for illegal aliens to evade authorities.
The first wave of the initiative is set to enroll up to 100,000 migrants, sources reported.
A Rush of New Policies
The ICE app is just one piece of the Biden administration’s broader plan to reshape immigration policies before Trump assumes office. Additional measures include giving migrants the ability to contest government orders for electronic tracking while awaiting immigration appointments.
But reversing these changes might not be straightforward for the incoming administration. Legal challenges and procedural hurdles could slow Trump’s efforts to reinstate stricter immigration controls.
“A lot of lawsuits get filed, maybe frivolously, but it just kind of stalls what the administration wants to do,” one DHS source explained.
Mark Morgan, former acting Customs and Border Protection Commissioner, criticized the Biden administration’s actions, calling them “the opposite of a peaceful transition of power.”
“This is an obstructionist transition,” Morgan said. “What they’re trying to do in the last final day, they’re going to try to put up as many roadblocks and obstacles and throw as many grenades as they can on their way out.”
Morgan also noted that legal challenges were effective in stalling Trump’s immigration policies during his first term and could similarly hinder efforts to dismantle Biden’s last-minute initiatives.
Struggles in New York City
New York City’s ICE field office, where the app will debut, is already grappling with an overwhelming caseload. Last year, the office was fully booked for appointments through October 2032, according to a document reviewed by the New York Post.
The city has become a focal point of the migrant crisis, with more than 223,000 migrants arriving since the crisis started. Of those, over 58,000 remain in city-funded shelters, which is costing taxpayers, according to a recent City Hall report.
Despite the app’s flaws, including compatibility issues with Android devices and inconsistent GPS tracking, the administration is moving forward with the program. Sources revealed that when migrants use the app on laptops, it fails to collect GPS data altogether. When used on phones, the location-sharing feature only works for seven days. This is a significant downgrade from the current system, which continuously tracks addresses and arrest records.
Monitoring Loosens Further
The Biden administration is also proposing to relax monitoring protocols in ICE’s “Alternatives to Detention” program. These changes could allow migrants to contest electronic tracking measures like ankle bracelets.
Under the proposed rules, migrants would have the right to request a review of their monitoring status at any time. If ICE officers deny the request, migrants could file appeals, leading to lengthy administrative processes.
One source explained the potential fallout: “What it is doing is creating a lot of burdensome administrative paperwork justifying what they’re doing now. I can tell you a lot of employees would just look at this is this is too much work. Most cases, they’ll just terminate them from the program and not have to go through the appeal process.”
These last-minute changes appear to be a deliberate attempt by the Biden administration to reshape immigration policies, complicating efforts for the incoming Trump administration to implement its agenda.
