Election season can provide unexpected twists and turns. But this latest incident wasn’t even at the back of anyone’s mind.

And the Kamala Harris campaign is stunned after Tim Walz is involved in a terrifying accident.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz continued his journey Monday after his motorcade was involved in a multi-car crash that left a staff member injured.

The motorcade was en route to a campaign stop for Vice President Kamala Harris in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, when the accident occurred.

The collision happened at 1:57 p.m. ET, involving several press vans in the motorcade that reportedly collided with one another.

Although Walz was near the front of the line and unaffected by the crash, those in the press vans experienced a jarring moment.

“A staff member in our press van appears to have a broken arm and is being treated by medics. Everyone else is shaken but appears to be in okay condition. We were violently thrown forward, as our van slammed into the one in front of us and was hit from behind,” wrote New York Times reporter Jazmine Ulloa.

The press typically travels at the rear of motorcades, and traffic is usually blocked to ensure safe passage. However, the crash delayed the motorcade for nearly an hour as emergency personnel responded to the scene.

“We are still unclear on what caused the crash. A woman in a BMW appears to have been stopped on a road that should have been cleared for the motorcade,” Ulloa noted.

The press was later moved to new vans, and the motorcade resumed its journey at approximately 2:50 p.m.

The injured staff member was part of the traveling pool, according to the campaign. Governor Walz later acknowledged the incident during his speech in Milwaukee, opening his remarks by addressing the crash.

“Some of you might have heard some of my staff and members of the press that were traveling with us were involved in a traffic accident on the way here today,” Walz said.

“We’ve spoken with the staff. I’m relieved to say that with a few minor injuries, everyone is going to be OK.”

Following the crash, both Vice President Harris and President Biden reached out to Governor Walz to ensure his well-being.

“The Vice President has been briefed on the collision involving Gov. Walz’s motorcade and her staff will continue to update her throughout the day. The Vice President spoke with Gov. Walz prior to takeoff from Detroit to check on him and the staff,” a White House official said.

The incident briefly interrupted the campaign schedule but was resolved without major delays, allowing Walz and his team to continue on to their Milwaukee event.
