Kamala Harris Faces Criticism for Announcing Aid to Lebanon Amid Hurricane Helene’s Aftermath

Vice President Kamala Harris came under fire this weekend after promoting the Biden-Harris administration’s decision to send millions in aid to Lebanon while many Americans are still grappling with the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene in the southeastern U.S.

As the full extent of the hurricane’s destruction remains unclear, and with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) warning of insufficient funds to last through the rest of the hurricane season, Harris took to X (formerly Twitter) to reveal that over $150 million in aid would be provided to Lebanon.

“The people of Lebanon are facing an increasingly dire humanitarian situation. I am concerned about the security and well-being of civilians suffering in Lebanon and will continue working to help meet the needs of all civilians there,” Harris posted.

“To that end, the United States will provide nearly $157 million in additional assistance to the people of Lebanon for essential needs such as food, shelter, water, protection, and sanitation to help those who have been displaced by the recent conflict. This additional support brings total U.S. assistance to Lebanon over the last year to over $385 million.”

The announcement was swiftly met with criticism from many who saw it as poorly timed, particularly with so many Americans struggling to recover from the hurricane’s destruction. Critics argued that the U.S. should prioritize relief efforts at home before allocating significant resources abroad.

“This has to be fake. Even Kamala Harris, the gold standard of stupid, isn’t stupid enough to post this. Certainly not while North Carolinians are pulling the bodies of their neighbors from the wreckage. It’s simply inconceivable,” actor James Woods commented.

Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) expressed similar disbelief, writing, “Please tell me there is a town called Lebanon, North Carolina?”

Arizona Congressman Eli Crane added to the backlash, stating, “Can’t make this stuff up. Americans are dead and devastated after the hurricane. Waiting for relief. Kamala’s admin has depleted our FEMA funding to resettle illegal aliens in the country and she posts this …”

Fox News contributor Joe Concha also chimed in, calling the situation “amateur hour,” and criticizing Harris’s team for posting about foreign aid while so many people in the U.S. were still missing or feared dead. “Yep. Her team actually posted this while hundreds are still missing or feared dead in Western North Carolina. This is rightfully the ratio to end all ratios.”

Conservative commentator Stephen L. Miller took aim at the perceived political misstep, stating, “People say she has no political talent but it takes an enormous amount of political talent to be both anti-Israel and anti-hurricane survival victims in a single statement.”

Political consultant Noah Pollak provided further context, arguing that much of the aid to Lebanon was, in reality, benefiting Iran and Hezbollah.

“Lebanon is controlled by Iran and its terrorist group Hezbollah. When she brags about giving $385 million in U.S. taxpayer money to ‘Lebanon,’ what she means is she is giving $385M to Iran — on top of all the hundreds of billions Biden-Harris has given them already,” Pollak remarked.

This is yet another example of the Biden/Harris administration not putting Americans first.

Forget how this impacts the upcoming election since North Carolina – one of the states hit hardest by Hurricane Helene – is a swing state, this was simply an example of how little Joe Biden and Kamala Harris care about U.S. citizens in need.
