Florida, once a battleground where elections hung by a thread, has transformed into a rock-solid Republican fortress. And now, even Democrats are waving the white flag. Rep. Jared Moskowitz, a Democrat from Florida, spilled the beans on how his party blew it big time, especially during the COVID madness.
Moskowitz didn’t hold back in his chat with Chuck Todd, painting a grim picture for liberals in the state. He sees Republican control stretching out for decades, thanks to smart GOP moves and Democrat blunders.
“I don’t know what the future of the Democratic Party holds in Florida,” Moskowitz said while speaking with Todd on the “Chuck Toddcast.” That’s straight from the horse’s mouth—a Democrat admitting they’re clueless on how to claw back power.
He pointed out the long history: Democrats ruled Florida for over a century, but now we’re deep into Republican dominance. “Democrats had power in Florida for 100+ years. We’re 35 years into Republican rule. We may be here for another 70.”
Chuck Todd pressed him on the causes. “How much of this is a voter shift, and how much of this is a lack of investment and leadership in the state party?” he asked.
The congressman admitted it’s a mess of problems. “There’s not just one thing that has gone wrong to get us here,” Moskowitz said, highlighting how Democrats struggle to raise cash and lure big names to the state capital after being sidelined for so long.
Even back when Democrats had more registered voters, Republicans kept snagging the governor’s mansion. Moskowitz laid it out plain: Republicans just know how to win.
And now? The numbers are brutal. “Now there are 1.2 million more registered Republicans. It’s starting to get to a point that it’s not recoverable, at least in the short term,” he stated.
People are escaping blue-state nightmares and flocking to Florida’s freedom-loving shores. The state has seen a huge influx of new residents tired of liberal policies elsewhere.
But Moskowitz zeroed in on the real game-changer: COVID. “But at the same time, I think you really gotta look at COVID. COVID was a seminal moment in politics,” he stated.
He hammered home how Democrat-led lockdowns and school closures backfired spectacularly. “The policies that came out of COVID, closing of schools, the fact that Florida opened schools early because the data was clear it wasn’t spreading in schools, right? That’s a big piece, Chuck,” Moskowitz said.
Under Gov. Ron DeSantis, Florida bucked the national trend of endless shutdowns. DeSantis trusted the science that showed kids weren’t super-spreaders and got schools back open fast.
Remember 2018? DeSantis barely squeaked by with a win of less than one percent. But fast-forward to 2022, after his bold COVID leadership, and he crushed his Democrat rival by almost 19 points.
That landslide wasn’t luck—it was proof that Americans crave leaders who protect freedoms, not bureaucrats who lock everything down. Florida’s success story drew even more conservatives to the state.
