Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis has become a top leader in conservative circles. So when he has something important to say, people listen.
That’s why absolutely everyone was shocked by this admission from Ron DeSantis.
The aftermath of the 2022 midterm elections proved that both major political parties had wins and losses.
It was mostly viewed as a wash in many ways.
Democrats lost big in critical regions in New York in California but they will at least maintain a 50-50 split in the U.S. Senate.
Republicans on the other hand gained control of the U.S. House but underperformed in total seats in both chambers after all was said and done.
Conservatives and Republicans were left wondering what happened and trying to figure out how to fix it ahead of 2024.
Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis thinks he has the answer to what happened for Republicans in 2024.
DeSantis suspects it pretty much all comes down to the candidate quality.
Ron DeSantis noted during a press conference that even though voters are fed up with Joe Biden and the Democrats’ poor leadership, some voters simply didn’t “want to vote” for poor Republican candidates.
“You know, we assumed we were going to end up with like, 245 House members, we’re at 222 it looks like, which is a huge underperformance. And so, you know, the question is, is, you know, why did that happen?” DeSantis asked at a press conference.
“Because the way these midterms work, someone gets elected to the White House, and then there’s a reaction the other way, that’s what happens almost every two years and especially when people are pessimistic about the direction of the country,” he noted.
Then the Florida Governor added that “even though they disapproved of Biden, even though they disapproved of the direction of the country. They still didn’t want to vote, you know, for some of our candidates.”
DeSantis would go on to note that the way to win isn’t bowing down to the Left and playing the politics game and sell out the conservative base for votes, but instead it’s showing leadership and producing results.
“So, I don’t think it’s a question of necessarily being divided as a party, I think it’s like, okay, how do you run and win majorities, and I think what we’ve done in Florida is we’ve shown that we’ve exercised leadership,” DeSantis continued.
He also added the fact that Florida was an extremely bright spot for conservatives and Republicans during the 2022 midterm elections.
No Republican Governor in the history of Florida’s elections performed as well as Ron DeSantis did with his dominant win over Democrat Charlie Crist.
And in DeSantis’s view, conservative Republicans need to emulate that same leadership that the DeSantis admin in Florida has been modeling.
It’s certainly hard to argue with his results too. So producing quality candidates and showing conservative leadership and producing results with that leadership sounds like a good idea if you’re a Republican hopeful right now.
