The Left has an issue following the law. But that it’s just brazen.
Because a shocking crime committed by this Democrat sends shockwaves through Washington, D.C.
Federal authorities have uncovered yet another troubling instance of deception tied to Democratic officials, where a staffer for a prominent Democrat allegedly impersonated a lawyer to breach security at an ICE detention facility—highlighting ongoing concerns about lax accountability and questionable tactics in the push for open-border policies.
Security Breach and Repeated Deceptions Exposed
A senior caseworker for Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-TX), Benito Torres, stands accused by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and ICE of repeatedly falsifying his identity to gain unauthorized access to detainees at the Camp East Montana facility at Fort Bliss in El Paso.
According to ICE records, Torres misrepresented himself as an attorney at least 11 times, even signing official federal paperwork (G-28 forms) attesting that he was legal counsel for specific individuals. Visitor logs show him identifying as a “lawyer” entering to meet a “client,” and he allegedly passed contraband cell phones to multiple detainees in violation of strict facility protocols that prohibit such devices for security reasons.
When confronted by the facility administrator, Torres admitted he was not an attorney and was visiting only as a private citizen—yet he had falsely claimed his phone use was agency-approved. Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons detailed the violations in a pointed letter to Escobar.
Evasion and Deflection from Democratic Leadership
In response to the allegations, Rep. Escobar quickly dismissed them, stating: “I have every reason to believe these allegations are unfounded.”
She further accused the administration of intimidation and obstruction, claiming: “It is worth noting that ICE has refused to respond to multiple letters I’ve sent about Camp East Montana regarding deaths, including a homicide; outbreaks of diseases including COVID-19, measles, and tuberculosis; waste, fraud, and abuse; a lack of legal representation or medical care; and so much more. This administration has a history of engaging in intimidation tactics against Members of Congress as well as continuously attempting to obstruct our ability to provide oversight.” Escobar has long criticized the facility, calling it disastrous and inhumane while pushing for its closure.
However, the evidence presented by DHS—including visitor logs and Torres’ own admission—paints a picture of deliberate misrepresentation that undermines legitimate congressional oversight and endangers facility security. This isn’t an isolated pattern; similar accusations have surfaced involving other Democratic offices attempting to skirt rules around immigration enforcement.
Upholding Law, Order, and Border Security
This incident underscores the importance of strict enforcement of immigration laws and facility protocols to protect national security and prevent abuses that could compromise operations.
ICE’s swift action—permanently barring Torres from all facilities—demonstrates that federal agencies will not tolerate fraud or contraband smuggling, regardless of political connections.
As Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons stated: “The available evidence demonstrates your staffer, a senior caseworker named Benito Torres, misrepresented himself as counsel for detainees in ICE custody, violated clear detention standards and security protocols prohibiting the use of cellphones inside ICE facilities, improperly met with multiple detainees, and falsely claimed to ICE personnel such use had been approved by the agency.”
He added: “As a result of bringing a cell phone into the Camp East Montana facility, contrary to facility visitation policy, Mr. Torres’ misrepresentation that he is a licensed attorney to gain access to detainees, his improper meetings with groups of detainees, and his assertions to ICE personnel about the origins of his visit, Mr. Torres is hereby prohibited from accessing any ICE facility.”
America’s border security and rule of law deserve robust defense against any attempts to circumvent them—whether through policy loopholes or outright deception. Incidents like this reinforce why strong, consistent enforcement benefits the nation, ensuring facilities operate safely while respecting legal processes over partisan maneuvers.
