The Democrats thought they had total control of the government. But they are in for a rude awakening.
Because the DOJ has made an announcement that has Joe Biden worried sick about going to jail.
As part of a parallel investigation to the ongoing investigation into former President Donald Trump, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland on Thursday named a special counsel to look into whether President Joe Biden inappropriately handled confidential government materials.
The investigation, which will be overseen by Robert Hur, may have an impact on the Democrat president’s anticipated bid for reelection in 2024.
Garland stated that Hur, who served as Trump’s top federal prosecutor in Maryland, will lead an investigation to see if Biden’s mansion in Delaware and a think tank in Washington inappropriately held sensitive documents from his time serving as vice president.
Hur published a statement Thursday, saying: “I will conduct the assigned investigation with fair, impartial, and dispassionate judgment. I intend to follow the facts swiftly and thoroughly, without fear or favor, and will honor the trust placed in me to perform this service.”
As a result of the news, the two candidates who might face off in the 2024 race now face inquiries from special prosecutors, who are frequently chosen for politically sensitive cases to ensure some degree of independence from Justice Department leadership.
One difference between the two cases is that, according to Biden’s lawyers, they turned up the documents as soon as they found them, whereas Trump waited until an FBI search in August, raising concerns about whether he or his staff hindered the inquiry.
In a speech at the Justice Department, Garland stated that he had come to the conclusion that a special counsel was required following an initial inquiry by John Lausch, the top federal prosecutor in the Chicago area who was nominated by Trump in 2017. The unusual circumstances in this case necessitate the appointment of a special counsel, according to Garland.
The fresh revelations were criticized by Republicans in Congress as proof of Biden’s hypocrisy.
A second set of classified documents from Biden’s time as vice president were discovered at a storage area at his Delaware home, according to a White House lawyer on Thursday. On Monday, the White House revealed that classified documents from Biden’s time as vice president were found in November at a think tank in Washington.
In November, Garland appointed Jack Smith as special counsel to lead Justice Department inquiries into Trump, including the former Republican president’s handling of confidential materials and attempts to rig the 2020 election.
In the upcoming weeks, Biden, 80, is anticipated to formally begin his reelection campaign. He has political concerns already as a result of the document dumps.
Before reading from a prepared speech that repeated the facts the White House released earlier in the day, the president told reporters on Thursday that he will have the opportunity to talk on “all of this soon,”
“As I said earlier this week, people know I take classified documents, classified material seriously. I also said we’re cooperating fully and completely with the Justice Department’s review,” Biden said.
Biden said that a few papers with classified markings were discovered by his legal team in file cabinets and storage spaces in his personal library at his Wilmington residence. His garage, which is, according to Biden, locked, is connected to the library.
In a statement on Monday, Richard Sauber, special counsel to the president, claimed that while packing documents at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement, a think tank affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania, on November 2, personal attorneys for Biden discovered classified materials in a locked closet.
Following the announcement of Hur’s appointment, Sauber released a second statement in which it stated that it had “cooperated from the moment we informed the Archives that a small number of documents were found, and we will continue to cooperate.” He continued by saying that he is confident the investigation will show that the documents were “inadvertently misplaced.”
According to officials, less than a dozen classified documents were found by Biden’s lawyers inside the office. They alerted the U.S. National Archives, which is in charge of maintaining federal archives, turned over the documents, and worked with the Archives and the Justice Department.
Biden claimed he was unaware of the records’ contents and was “surprised to learn that there were any government records that were taken there to that office”
At best, Joe Biden was negligent with classified materials from his time as Vice President.
At worst, he was knowingly in possession of the classified materials for reasons unknown at this time.
But don’t expect the Fake News Media outlets or Democrats to condemn Biden at all.
